Least expensive new car that projects a bit of professional success and status?

Anonymous
BMW drivers are the absolute worst, most entitled drivers. Porsches are incredibly fragile. I think Mazda has the best design and beautiful interiors. They are safe and cheaper than luxury cars, but look great.

Costs as much or more as the showier makes but still seems practical and low key

Volvo is the current try hard car.

I have a late model Volvo. What am I trying hard to do?

+1 and Lexus is the "pragmatic luxury" choice

Lexus is not luxury.

the higher-end Lexuses are nicer than 90% of the BMW/MB/Audis you see on the road

Only the high-end of the luxury brands project success and status. BMW - M, Audi - RS, Mercedes - AMG.

Sure it is. Consumer Reports, Edmunds, Road & Track and Car & Drivwe all classify it as such and ranks it with MB, BMW, Audi, and Porsche. And, no, I do not have one.

Macan is perfect for you if you want to stand out a bit. It is not as common as BMW and audi, looks great, drives even better, very reliable.

It’s supposed to be the luxury line of Toyota.

Base Macan does not instantly accelerate. You have to bump up a more expensive version for it to have the bigger engine. And the back seat is next to impossible for an adult of any size to get in and out of.

OP, why are you only looking at new cars? If you really want an exotic "luxury car" and have time, money, and a god mechanic for repairs, I would buy used. A Macan or X5 will depreciate a lot -- let that be someone else's depreciation.

I live in an affluent neighborhood with plenty of Bentley (the SUV), G Wagons, Range Roves (highest % is in the big Range Rover and the G Wagons,) Rivian SUVs, Porsche Cayman, Panamera, Cayenne, etc. After reading this thread yesterday I noticed 2 Volvo X 60s and I thought they looked interesting.

I paid cash for that car in 2015. My next car will likely be a Toyota camry hybrid, which I'll buy new and pay cash for. I'm 45 and have a net worth of $1.7M plus a fully paid off condo, which I don't count in my net worth. I'm a mid-senior government employee with nothing to prove.

I care much more about someone's character than their possessions. Please don't go in to huge amounts of debt to impress people you barely know with an expensive car.

No one cares
