Least expensive new car that projects a bit of professional success and status?

I would not get a base bmw. Unless you order it, you probably won’t even be able to find a base model. Don’t get a base macan, that’s just sad.
Personally, I feel like the Volvo xc90 is the perfect car for this assuming you are a woman.
If you are going to buy and keep the car awhile, just get a Highlander. It’s good looking car and people will just think you don’t care about cars, if they even notice at all. Most people do not care about cars at all, and they are a big waste of money.

Very true! I’m one of them. Please, please, just get something that makes you HAPPY. Because 99.9% of people will not notice what you drive and don’t parse models and label drivers like some posters do here.

Volvo or lexus
Costs as much or more as the showier makes but still seems practical and low key

Are you in sales, OP? Do you have a car allowance?

Have to agree with this. Step up from the Audi 5

I think volvo is the "quiet luxury" choice.

+1 and Lexus is the "pragmatic luxury" choice

It speaks more minimalist than luxurious to me.

Why? It's not the 90s anymore.
Tesla if you must. Got back from EU and they are all over the place.

If a fully loaded Toyota costs more than your status car, I’m going to assume you’re a striver. Others might not, but since you seem to care what people think, that’s my 2 cents

+1

Go with a nicely packaged Acura or Volvo. Getting a base model BMW is the equivalent of going to the coach outlet and buying a purse with Cs all over it just to prove you can afford Coach.

You’re trying way too hard to be snarky. You sound weird.

I don't want anything obnoxious, just respectable and rung above normal, if that makes sense? Leaning towards BMW X5 or Porsche Macan, both about around a $65k base MSRP. Anything less expensive than that?

Are you that insecure?
