Is this alcoholism or just tacky? At restaurant, husband will

I would consider it problematic. Whether it’s alcoholic or not depends on a lot of other factors.

Lately when we are seated and order drinks and apps, he will order our drinks, apps, and also request that a second round be brought out with the apps. He says he’s making it easier on the server. But it just seems like he wants to quickly suck down his first cocktail and have it swooped away and a fresh one arrives with apps ten or so minutes after sitting at the restaurant. If nothing else it feels a bit tacky to essentially double order booze right when we’re seated?

Sounds expensive

IT TAKES AT LEAST ONE HOUR TO METABOLIZE ONE AVERAGE DRINK.

So if you're driving in an hour, you can only have one.

Drinking the second one soon after the first WILL NOT SPEED UP METABOLIZATION.

Idiots.

Don't eat that fast! Dinners are like 2-2.5 hours at a minimum if you're doing appetizer, main and dessert. Wolfing down your food is very tacky

I’d fall asleep from boredom at a 2.5 hour dinner. Not alcohol.

If by “you” you mean him, I’m sure he’d be annoyed at his controlling wife.

Also, talk to your husband. No one else cares.

Well I’m not sure no one else cares. If I were out to dinner with them, I would think it’s really odd behavior.

And I would find your interest in my ordering off-putting. I should make a habit of this to weed out judgmental people like you and OP early (and you wouldn’t have to deal with me!).

It’s certainly a tell. Another tell is reaching for any alcohol beverage to take a sip right after the waiter sets it on your table. Proper etiquette is to let the drink rest for a couple of minutes.

I have about one alcoholic drink per month, and I generally take a sip right after it is set on the table.

I wouldn't be ready for a second drink with the appetizers! And if it is a second drink to go with the main course, it probably won't be the cocktail that I ordered when I sat down, it would be a glass of wine. Or maybe i wouldn't feel like a second drink. Anyways, sitting down and knowing for a fact you're going to have a second order of your drink in 10 min time, no matter what, tells me you're more concerned with consuming alcohol in a short time frame than actually enjoying whatever drink you ordered and then deciding if you want to repeat it or have something that complements whatever food you happen to be eating (apps? dinner? desert?) eating when you're ready for a second drink.

Two drinks for an entire meal is probably not alcoholism. But if he's doing this because he has a hard time waiting to order that second drink, and then waiting for it to arrive... maybe.

I would feel like WTF is he in such a giant rush that he can't just wait to order another one when the appetizers come and he is done with the first one? I would also feel like he was sort of an an ass for expecting the waitress/bar staff to be timing the arrival of his future drinks.

It would annoy me, but not make me think he had an alcohol problem.

You could just not drink all of it? Does it routinely take 20min for your drink order to come anyways?

12 beers in 2 days is binge drinking by literally any standard

He says he’s making it easier on the server.

How is this making it easier on the server? It doesn't seem like it is making it easier on the staff overall, the server has to tell the bartender to time the second drink.

Why should I deliberately dilute my cocktail with melting ice for a couple of minutes? What?
