| The "whining" is being being reported by a Prep supporter on this forum who claims that Landon wants Prep out of the IAC. There is no evidence to support this. Yes, for several years the admins/AD's of the IAC have discussed competitive balance, and a few years ago there was serious discussion of Prep, Landon and STA leaving the IAC for the MIAA (Baltimore's best athletic conference). But can we keep this site as a serious forum for helping each other gather info and make decisions re our kids education? Leave the petty barbs for some other sports website. |

How is Landon an "embarassment" for the IAC? You don't actually believe it's students, parents or faculty are any worse/better people than the rest of the IAC? It has had its share of bad publicity, some deserved, some not, for situations that are universal among adolescent environments. The other schools may not be as exposed publicly for whatever reason, but all the issues that Landon is dealing with head on are out there. Eventually, the spotlight will turn on some other school in a similarly distorted manner. You may end up finding that Landon becomes a leader in single sex education in aggressively addressing the issues that it's headmaster's letter describes.
As for the complaint that Landon's sports teams are successful because they are comprised of 19 yr old seniors, this is a tired old refrain that is neither factual nor logical. Landon is often undersized and has less gifted athletes compared to Prep and non-IAC schools. Its success is based on having studetns play sports together for several years, having excellent coaching, and an intense work ethic. Landon has no more "over-aged" athletes than other schools. There is no consistent pattern of its "star" athletes being consistently older. This is no different than claiming that Prep's athletic success is based solely on "recruiting." |
| Prep has 440 boys. I think it used to be 360 before the new buildings went up. Ninety in each class. Now it is a hundred and change. |

According to GP's website, Prep has 480 boys. Here is the link. http://www.gprep.org/landingPage.aspx?pageId=52048§ionId=877 As for the previous poster who continues to say Landon is trying to force GP out of the IAC for every sport, can you please list your sources. What credibility do you have on an anonymous website. I know two years ago, in the Spring of 2008, the IAC heads / AD's had a vote to get GP back in the IAC football. David Armstrong and St. Albans both voted to invite GP back into the IAC. I know for a fact, that St. Stephens, Bullis and Episcopal all voted not to invite GP back in the league for football. I had also heard, that the IAC has thought about inviting Bishop Ireton and Flint Hill to become members in the IAC. I do think though if Prep continues to grow in numbers, and if they grow to be over 500 boys, then yes they should look to join elsewhere. For another previous poster, you think Landon is the only team in the IAC that has 19 year sold seniors. I guess Prep has no 19 year old seniors because they go to Prep. I know of two kids repeating 8th grade at Mater Dei this Fall, both very good lacrosse players - both will turn 15 this year as 8th graders. |
| flint Hill rumor way off; school not considered academically up to par. Potomac and Sidwell have come up in convos. |
|
Flint Hill's academics are not that bad - whats the knock on them for? They may not send as many kids to the IVY league schools but the academics are pretty tough and there are plenty of great teachers there. Flint Hill is growing in numbers and they appear to be the most competitive team in all sports in the MAC. I think they would be a great fit for the IAC long term.
Sidwell will never come back to the IAC. Although a great academic school, athletics are just not on par with the IAC schools. (YES Sidwell Soccer is very good and they would do fine in the IAC and maybe tennis) Sidwell left the IAC in the late 90's and don't think they are going to come back anytime soon. |
| Sidwell is not a candidate for the IAC. It has a terrible football program. |
| However, Flint Hill is not up the same level of academics as Landon, Prep, Sidwell, Potomac, etc. |
| Sidwell IS being considered, as is Potomac, in theoretical talks about the future of the IAC. It doesn't mean either school would make the move. Both those schools might decide to stay in their current conference, the MAC, because of the disparity in numbers of boys. I have nothing against Flint Hill and it may be on the rise as a school, but the perception among IAC powers-that-be is that it is academically a cut below at thisntime; thus, the IAC is not interested. |
| Neither one of those schools you mentioned above, Sidwell or Potomac is going to join the IAC. |
As a Sidwell parent, I say, thanks for the flattering offer but I'm afraid we have to decline. |
| Does Landon hope to replace with GP with Sidwell? That's hilarious. |

You seem very quick to point your finger at Landon, do you have some personal vendetta against Landon. The last time I checked the IAC is comprised of 5 other teams. From my sources, Landon is trying to get GP back in the IAC for football which is the complete opposite of what you are saying. And its foolish tot hink Sidwell and Potomac are going to join the IAC. Thats a lie. Sidwell and Potomac don't even dominate the MAC, what makes you think they would even come over the IAC - as much strong athletic conference. |

1. WHY would Landon want to kick GP out of the IAC? That's absurd... That rivalry is one of the best in the country for independent schools and both schools enjoy it even though they show bitterness on the field.
2. Sidwell and Potomac are not going to be joining the IAC anytime soon. Too drastic changing of schedules for any schools to join in the near future. 3. Flint Hill is no way near the top schools. I am sure its top students would be able to succeed anywhere but besides their Latin program, it's an academically weak school. They actually used to be a sports powerhouse but last year was slow, who knows how this year is going to go for them. 4. This is going to sound dum but I don't get it... Is the IAC better than the MAC? And is the MIAA better than the IAC? |
| Nobody can touch Dematha in this area in terms of athletic achievement. they are consistently ranked among the best in the country. If you are obsessed with sports and think your son is a legitimate big time athlete, he should go there, particularly for football or basketball. |
