What a weird thing to admit that Republican voters are so manipulable.

+1.

The truth about the popularity of Trump is simple - it's a backlash against the societal progress of women, racial minorities, and other marginalized groups such that they are approaching equality with straight, white Christian men.

Yes, that must be it. Couldn't possibly be the promise of a secure border, crime-ridden cities cleaned up, voter ID required, and criminals actually kept in jail (among other things). No, that's crazy talk.

That makes sense, more or less good goals, but what is baffling is that you think Trump will actually achieve any of that.

Well, we all know that Biden has no plans to achieve any of that... I'm willing to give someone else a chance.

All of that was better when Trump was president. Plus fewer crack addict family members offering advice to the president.

Yeah. I mean Biden is now achieving the near impossible. He is making the return of Trump and the Trump family look like an upgrade. Well done Biden! He needs to step down asap.

No they were just employed by the White House. 50 years from now the books on this era will be filled with WTF comments about how did Americans put up with Trump's unethical behavior. Guaranteed.

Sure as long as one of those criminals being kept in jail is Trump himself. And his criminal cronies like Paul Manafort.

I agree Biden needs to go. I will never agree that Trump is an upgrade from Biden or anybody. It really blows my mind that anyone concludes that Trump is a good idea under any circumstances.

A lot of them? Are they that thankful for him or are they asking God to help him? I fear the former is it.

I asked myself, why do they feel this way given everything we know about this man? What I came up with is that they really like that he pays attention to them. He speaks directly to them. He says things they can understand and relate to. He doesn't confuse them with a bunch of complicated political and policy details. He calls other people names including calling our current president Crooked Joe even though Biden is clearly going through a sad worsening of dementia and elderly weakness and obviously needs any prayers anyone can muster. That would be somewhat Christian wouldn't it?

Anyway, it's very disheartening to think of the millions of people who find DJT to be a relatable guy and the best hope for our immediate future as a nation. It makes me really sad for our country.

BTW my current preference for the election is a new slate of candidates completely, both sides.

OP --- Yes the people there feel that way. Fully. They like him because regular pols and the elites lie to them all the time or take positions that they view are crazy. They know what Trump is. They are not blind to it. But they think he is what the system needs because the system is roten and does not work for them. Trump has about 45% of voters. Dems have about the same. The rest are people that lean conservative if not maga. Eight years ago a portion of this group (mostly white women) slowly moved away from Hillary as she sets out in her new book. Trump won. Four years ago, a portion of this group (mostly white males, educated, conservative) moved away from Trump and Biden won. Why did they move away --- they viewed Trump as not being all that great at governing. We do not know what will happen now. At the moment it looks like that 10% is shifting in Trump's direction because they think Biden is old, failing and has not done a good job. Biden has done a good job but people are not buying it. If Harris takes the lead that group does not move to her. They would view her worse than Biden. Do not believe current poles that shows she is close. If she is the lead she goes down by 5% right away and stays there.

I mean all you need to do is read history books to see how the corrupt and the horrible always get their comeuppance eventually. History has a way of doing that. No one thinks Bull Connor is a great man.

To be perfectly objective, Trump has also shown signs of dementia. The big difference is he looks and sounds more robust and walks more steadily than Biden. But he is also old and has his own mental deficiencies (not to mention character and moral ones). Of course this point is lost on his supporters because they think having a year-round "tan" (it's not--it's makeup), having a "hot" wife (they've all seen the nudie pics), yelling instead of talking in a normal voice, calling other people names, puffing out his chest, and acting like a bully is somehow more virile and therefore young.

Wait - THIS is why you think people vote for Trump? Oh my.

Women voted for Bill Clinton simply because they found him the most physically attractive.

Millions of people in this country can't comprehend the issues or the solutions and therefore vote based on very innocuous criteria. I will agree that's probably how Clinton got elected but I know for certain that's how Trump got elected.
