Driving south on 95 in VA approaching the NC lline. I found it kind of dumbfounding. First, he's not the president. Aside from that, do the people of that area really feel this way? A lot of them? Are they that thankful for him or are they asking God to help him? I fear the former is it.
I asked myself, why do they feel this way given everything we know about this man? What I came up with is that they really like that he pays attention to them. He speaks directly to them. He says things they can understand and relate to. He doesn't confuse them with a bunch of complicated political and policy details. He calls other people names including calling our current president Crooked Joe even though Biden is clearly going through a sad worsening of dementia and elderly weakness and obviously needs any prayers anyone can muster. That would be somewhat Christian wouldn't it? Anyway, it's very disheartening to think of the millions of people who find DJT to be a relatable guy and the best hope for our immediate future as a nation. It makes me really sad for our country. BTW my current preference for the election is a new slate of candidates completely, both sides. |
| The more you attack him, the more popular he becomes. |
I don't attack him anywhere but on DCUM. Do you think I'm persuading some people here to like him more? Fascinating! |
dp.. so it's not about his policies but about "sticking it to the libs"? |
| No, it’s his policies. To them, they are common sense. When he is attacked, it shows his supporters that the people doing the attacking are not in touch with them and that is what solidifies their support. |
| OP, you realize that former presidents are still referred to as President ___, right? Therefore he is indeed, President Trump. |
What a weird thing to admit that Republican voters are so manipulable. |
Nope. You are wrong. They are referred to as former president x. Editors and anyone who deals in etiquette knows this. Here you go: https://emilypost.com/advice/addressing-a-former-president-of-the-united-states |
The nature of the attacks provide valuable information about the attackers. If the attacks are perceived as unfair, so then are the attackers. |
| I keep praying for creatures from his home planet to take him away or a good old fashioned heart attack. |
Sorry not sure what happened to my full post but had written that if you are writing ABOUT a former president you can call them former president X. If you are addressing them directly you call them Mr X. |
Sorry not buying that. |
Trump doesn't have policies, he has vague promises designed to manipulate the rubes. Great Wall paid for by Mexico? Total scam. Obamacare replacement? Total scam. Infrastructure Week? Total scam. |
| It’s very common to refer to former presidents as President X. |
From your own link “In reality, many people ignore this convention and refer to former Presidents as "President Last Name" when they are in settings where nearly everyone would afford them the honor of the title.” |
