God Bless President Trump (Billboard I saw)

What a weird thing to admit that Republican voters are so manipulable.

Why is it weird? We are deplorable.

So much silliness here. It all boils down to Trump is going to win because Biden’s policies are deeply unpopular (border, inflationary spending) and now we know he is cognitively impaired. Who cares about a billboard. It’s a distraction from what is really going on. Trump is going to win.

Therefore, it was rather ignorant and petty of you, PP, to point out the obvious: trump is not currently the sitting president of the USA.

The more correct convention is to say "former" in front of someone who is no longer in office. Dude, listen to the editors on this one please.

And Regan is called the late president. Because he's dead.

Mostly articles just use the last name after they've added "former president" the first time.

PRESIDENT OBAMA.

suck it, PP.

Interesting. If someone said exactly the same thing about their hopes for Biden, we all know you'd have to take to your fainting couch.

Would it be respectful to call Trump the future president Trump?

See, now this is what we Republicans have figured out. Not all, but a good number of the other side would be happy if we just all died. They’d dance on our graves (then wonder later on where all the food, gasoline, and electricity went). When I hear people saying they want Trump to die, what I hear is they want me to die.

I’m sure there are plenty of nasty people on my side too, so let’s not get into that game of pulling out random quotes from strangers. Just suggesting here to keep the death wishes off this board.

I get what you are saying. Republicans, especially those who are Trump fans, identify with him on a very visceral level, much more than they actually admire his presidential skills and abilities. Discussions with actual Trump fans and videos I've seen of interviews with those who go to his rallies indicate that as much as they love him they have no clear understanding of his politics.

And it's that visceral love that is so bewildering to me. Because Trump is objectively repulsive in every way. His mannerisms, his behavior, his ignorance, his appearance.

Would these people tolerate half the nonsense Trump vomits into the world in a close friend or relative?

Because Trump, for all his faults, does his best to defend the rest of us against the tyranny of childless, college-educated white women.

Nope. You are wrong.

They are referred to as former president x.

Editors and anyone who deals in etiquette knows this.

Sorry not sure what happened to my full post but had written that if you are writing ABOUT a former president you can call them former president X. If you are addressing them directly you call them Mr X.

I really don't think anyone putting up a billboard cares about that "etiquette," do you?

From your own link

“In reality, many people ignore this convention and refer to former Presidents as "President Last Name" when they are in settings where nearly everyone would afford them the honor of the title.”

Exactly. News reporters/hosts always refer to living former presidents as "President Obama/Clinton/Trump." It's perfectly appropriate.

A lot of them? Are they that thankful for him or are they asking God to help him? I fear the former is it.

I asked myself, why do they feel this way given everything we know about this man? What I came up with is that they really like that he pays attention to them. He speaks directly to them. He says things they can understand and relate to. He doesn't confuse them with a bunch of complicated political and policy details. He calls other people names including calling our current president Crooked Joe even though Biden is clearly going through a sad worsening of dementia and elderly weakness and obviously needs any prayers anyone can muster. That would be somewhat Christian wouldn't it?

Anyway, it's very disheartening to think of the millions of people who find DJT to be a relatable guy and the best hope for our immediate future as a nation. It makes me really sad for our country.

BTW my current preference for the election is a new slate of candidates completely, both sides.

To be perfectly objective, Trump has also shown signs of dementia. The big difference is he looks and sounds more robust and walks more steadily than Biden. But he is also old and has his own mental deficiencies (not to mention character and moral ones). Of course this point is lost on his supporters because they think having a year-round "tan" (it's not--it's makeup), having a "hot" wife (they've all seen the nudie pics), yelling instead of talking in a normal voice, calling other people names, puffing out his chest, and acting like a bully is somehow more virile and therefore young.

Wait - THIS is why you think people vote for Trump? Oh my.

So they are ignoring the proper way of addressing. Got it. Not very conservative.

DP. I’m trying to say this kindly. It is disordered thinking to think that millions of Americans wish you dead. It is also not normal to say that when you hear people saying that they want Trump to die, what you hear is that they want you to die. Please, please talk to someone about this. I wish you the best. We are all Americans and all human after all.

DP. Oh, please. How many unhinged posts from "disordered LWNJ thinkers" have we all read on DCUM, gleefully discussing the demise of older Trump voters? Spare us your sanctimony.

DP it certainly hasn't pushed them away. Why are republicans so attracted to a bully?

+1.

The truth about the popularity of Trump is simple - it's a backlash against the societal progress of women, racial minorities, and other marginalized groups such that they are approaching equality with straight, white Christian men.

Yes, that must be it. Couldn't possibly be the promise of a secure border, crime-ridden cities cleaned up, voter ID required, and criminals actually kept in jail (among other things). No, that's crazy talk.

Why are Democrats so attracted to a senile old man who can't even secure the border of the country he purports to lead?
