Well that was the dullest/saddest DC fireworks display I've ever seen!

You saw both NYC fireworks and DC fireworks last night? Cool didn’t know that was possible

They have this thing called TV now. It’s kind of a rectangular box that can receive images from remote locations, and you can see what’s going on. You can even change what they call “channels”, with each one displaying different content.

By using this device last night, I could compare the firework displays of the two cities and see that New York did a much better job. I forgot to mention that this device has sound too, so I could also compare the music. I could also see that San Diego and many other cities also had better shows. You should try and get one of these things, they’re cheap. Post here if you need further advice.

Watching fireworks on TV is not a good way to evaluate displays. On TV they will show you them all at the same scale but in reality it really matters where they set them off from and what the vantage point is like both from the "official" viewing locations and throughout the city. Both DC and NYC set them off from barges in the water I believe but DC generally has better vantage points because it's a lower city so you have good views from many rooftops in the city especially downtown. In NY it's very location dependent. DC also has the benefit of the mall running along the river so the official viewing point has a huge amount of space with amazing views of the fireworks plus lots of places for live music. In NY it's harder to set it up like that though of course many people are able to see them.

I've seen displays in both cities and they are both great but in general it is easier to get a good view of DC's fireworks and generally their display is pretty great.

Also the music you heard may not have been the music played for people in the cities -- you're just watching a canned production on TV. It's just not the same.

You can see the live acts, it’s not canned. Unfortunately DC switched to military bands long ago, which are inevitably staid and tedious no matter what they do. Back in the day they would get the Beach Boys or something, but they gentrified the whole thing and ruined it. I think they got tired of all the trash and drunkenness. It was a lot more fun though.

Even if you are watching the live display, you are not watching it live so you can't evaluate.

The TV broadcast of DC fireworks will feature the music being played at the "Capital Fourth" celebration over by the Congressional reflecting pool but most people in DC are not listening to that music. That production is put up primarily for TV.

Watching on TV is a fundamentally different experience than being in person.

It’s more than sufficient to be able to see that NYC’s were spectacular, and DC’s were mundane.

Lol This poor poster is doubling down. It’s OK. I’m a small suburb with my local fireworks, and I would’ve preferred those over a very big and expensive polluting display. we are OK to like different things. But seems like you want to win this?

You are right.yours are bigger and better and more huge and the most fantastic fireworks ever

“ Folks, let me tell you, I’ve seen a lot of fireworks in my time, the best fireworks, the biggest fireworks, but this display, this was something special. Absolutely incredible. The colors, the lights, the sounds—huge explosions like you’ve never seen before, believe me. People were saying it was the greatest fireworks show ever, and they were right. Tremendous. And you know what? We did it better than anyone else could. No one does fireworks like we do. Just spectacular, folks, truly a sight to behold!”

+1 better for air quality, birds, dogs, and it’s quiet.

The one they did in Edinburgh during covid with the poem was amazing.

We all need a good ole Trump spin on things sometimes.

Maybe it’s time to stop fireworks. It’s bad for environment.

An environmentally friendly option is a laser-light show, which is better and more entertaining anyway.

Fireworks should be banned entirely.
