Where Should We Move? MD/VA?

VA is full of data centers and is going downhill. Amazon, Nestle, all the major employers are shedding jobs. Data centers don't actually employ many people and will drive up energy costs. MD all the way.

I would live on the same side of the river as my work, unless I could take MetroRail.

There are no non diverse schools in MoCo. It is like a NYC subway in Queens during rush hour

Burke and West Springfield are good suggestions. A lot of federal/military residents, the VRE from Burke, good schools even if not rated as highly as those in McLean/Great Falls (but housing costs are also not as high). Little crime, reasonable population density, i.e., not overcrowded or excessively noisy), and family-centric.

Fort Hunt is easily the best option for these criteria.

that's why they don't have to raise taxes because NoVA is getting revenue from other places. No big companies moving to MD and population is already declining in and around Baltimore so do you want to know why?

Way more than 45 minute commute.

I actually think you have a lot of good options because you have one kid. All you need is a 2-3 bedroom house. For 1-1.2 you can find a cute SFH in Rockville (Wootton), parts of Potomac (Churchill), or Bethesda (WJ).

You guys are raising taxes. Arlington recently raised the restaurant tax again, it's like 12% now (we only pay 6% in MoCo). And remember how Youngkin promised to get rid of that crazy grocery tax -- whatever happened to that? And if you think your incomes taxes won't go up, think again....

Meanwhile, AstraZeneca just announced a $2 billion investment in Maryland, so we're doing just fine with big companies.

That AstraZeneca story is the only story MoCo has to hang its hat on. Development like that happens multiple times a year in NoVa.

I’m still waiting on the Purple Line. Along the Silver Line, which opened a few years ago, the Lerners have a sign up in Tysons selling office and retail space for Tysons 3 (!!!) while the Lerners have left White Flint Mall fenced off and vacant for years and years now. Why are the Lerners so bullish on Virginia while they let a property like White Flint Mall collect dust and languish? The answer should tell you all you need to know.

The Lerners have sat on that property in Tysons for at least 7 years:

So the Lerners weren't all that bullish on Virginia. Evidently, they've only started to move forward because they want to build a casino on that site.
