Omg, this is the biggest humble brag ever. And honestly I’m embarrassed/annoyed that you’re a Sidwell parent. Please stop pasting your kids grades all over a public forum under the guise that you’re wondering if she’s at the top of the class. You know she is with the exception for about 10 people. Double yuck.

OP ignore the people who keep dissing you and calling Your post a humble brag. They don’t get it because their kids are not in the same range.
I have a child who earned a 3.92 GPA, and they were disappointed. They work so hard and sometimes it’s just a minor thing that makes the difference between an A or an A- or between and A- or a B+. DC stays up until 1 or 2 am many nights. I can understand the disappointment because they work so hard. |
Thank you—I appreciate it! After responding to the first “humble brag” post, I decided to ignore the rest. I know it’s always a risk to ask questions like this on DCUM, but every now and then, you get little nuggets of helpful information (e.g., the cumulative GPA calculator, Sidwell parents offering context for grades, etc). It takes a parent like you, with a child that has a high Sidwell GPA, to understand the disappointment my daughter feels after working so hard—even though she has a relatively high GPA. Sidwell has been a sobering adjustment for both of us, and that’s ok to say. |

Does anyone happen to know (for real) the GPA cutoff for Top Quarter of the rising senior class?
|
I heard it was 3.75ish. |
What about the top 10%? |
| I agree w the recommendation to ignore 'humble brag' critics. These schools aren't that transparent and DCUM has benefit of parents of kids from different years. Still it seems unclear if this 3.8 is 'everyone but top ten kids or top 50% of class. Guessing closer to former than latter. Anyway, these schools are hard and sounds like your kid did great. Congrats and enjoy the summer. |
Around 3.9 |
Agree with this. It's the same at NCS. |
| NP. Does anyone know whether how kids perform in middle school is indicative of how they do in US? My DS is mostly As, an A-, one B usually every quarter. US scares me |
| Teaching your kids that a 3.92 at an incredibly hard school is a disappointment is setting them up for a lifetime of never feeling good enough or that anything is enough. And good luck during college app time. |
Unlikely that they will be top 10% of the class. But exactly how they do? who knows. |
So, that’s about 12 to 13 students out of ~125. That’s pretty tough. |
Yeah, if this is true, it’s easy to see why only 1 to 2 students (sometimes 0) graduates with a 4.0. |
| Is Sidwell more, less, same difficulty as boarding schools like Andover, etc? |
