Sidwell Report Cards Just Came Out…

How hard is it to graduate from the US with all A’s (A’s and A-‘s)? Approximately how many students graduate each year with a 4.0? Or >3.90?

My child did fine (a mix of A’s and one B+ in science), but she worked VERY hard for that B+. Fortunately, she has no interest in pursuing a science/science adjacent major in college. So, she isn’t taking any 1A classes.

This question is for Sidwell parents. Thanks!

A 4.0-3.9 is hard. Below 3.8, not so much.

3.9 means they have far more As than A minuses. Remember, an A minus is a 3.7--a super good grade (and very hard to get in many classes) but each one drops the GPA. That's why a 3.9 is so challenging.

It’s hard to get top grades at Sidwell. Most get Bs mixed in. Colleges know that.

OP. Yes, that’s what I’m finding. She’s a very good student, and had straight A’s (no minuses) in middle school. Now, she is working twice (3x?) as hard, and this is her second B+ (also in science freshman year). She also has way more A-‘s than A’s on her report cards.

Btw, this isn’t a bash Sidwell post. Overall, I think it’s a great school, and my daughter loves it. It was by far her first choice and she would choose Sidwell again. However, it’s a hard school (academically speaking). Harder than expected.

Why on earth are you posting this here? I don’t believe you’re a Sidwell parent. Because of you were you’d be talking to friends not posting on an anonymous board. This reads more like a VBA.

Are you drunk? You’re suggesting that I speak to other Sidwell parents about my daughter’s grades (and their children’s grades)?!? You think those answers will be more honest than responses here? You are the one who clearly isn’t a Sidwell parent.

I have neither the time nor the inclination to prove anything to you. Believe whatever you want.

It's a humble brag. My kid isn't even close to those grades.

OP, your kid's grades probably put them at the 50-75% mark in the grade. There are always a handful of kids, maybe 10? who get a 3.9+ and a few of these who have a 4.0. These kids are remarkably smart and disciplined and had some luck with teachers as well. I'm quite sure that I (an Ivy educated mom in my 40s) could not get a 4.0 at Sidwell. Those who do are truly impressive.

At least one of the PPs here is not a Sidwell parent yet you probably believed them. What makes you think DCUM is a place for honest answers?

Sounds like you don’t like/trust Sidwell parents. Probably the only honest answer here.

What do you think I’m humble bragging about? That my daughter is working like a pack mule to end up with grades that don’t crack a 3.9? Mmmkay.

OP. I like Sidwell parents just fine. Trust? No—not when discussing my daughter’s grades. In all fairness to Sidwell parents, I wouldn’t trust any parents with that information at any of these schools.

Btw, if you don’t have anything constructive to add, please move along.

Thanks, that sounds about right. It seems that my daughter’s friends and (some) classmates are fairly honest with each other about grades. She told me that she only knows of one student in her grade who, reputedly, has maintained a 4.0. There may be others, but she has only heard one name mentioned consistently.

NP. You really sound unhinged. It’s totally a humble brag. Get some perspective, lady.
