Thank you very much. In the omnibus corrupt Supreme Court thread I said this is what your side would try as an excuse.

Really? Defending free speech now is an excuse?

Anyways, here is link to the hatch act.

Please read it. Alito did nothing wrong.

So you're suggesting that they needed to add a bullet to cover federal employees supporting an insurrection? I'm not sure they had that much foresight that this was needed when pulling this legislation together.

Both he and his wife are allowed free speech. They did this on their own property. His wife is allowed to be her own person - he does not own her and she is not bound to the SCOTUS ethics.

Believe it or not, woman can have their own opinions.

By this logic she could run around the neighborhood yelling the N word

She could be doing that right now, we just won’t find out about it until three and a half years later.

Must be why he blamed it on his wife.

Just like Menendez. I guess blaming the wife is the one thing the right and left can agree on.

Why is it so hard to believe the wife turned the flag upside down?

Why is it so hard to believe that he knows this is a terrible look and he's throwing her under the bus?

This. I was married to a guy in a public role/job that came with a ton of rules and I was well aware that I needed to be mindful of them too. Optics matter. Professionalism matters.

Your argument is that a Supreme Court justice and his wife are free to publicly support an insurrectionist movement. Amazing what the GOP has descended to.

Where are you posting from that you have this little knowledge about the volume of rules, ethics, and professional behavior that federal employees have to follow?

It's distasteful to fly a flag upside down, but would not be a Hatch Act violation.

Supreme Court judges don’t have any ethics rules because they’re SUPPOSED to be beyond reproach. Laughable now.

So you can fight over the Hatch Act not applying or the meaning of an upside flag all you want but no ethical, professional fed would do something so dumb. It’s a shame people don’t understand professionalism anymore.

So, not allowed to disagree publicly with your husband?

The corporate owned media is right wing media.

Is it possible that they accidentally put the flag upside down? How long was it like this for? If it was only upside down for a few days or a week tops, it seems plausible that it could have been accidental.

Hahahaha. This former general’s wife thinks this is hysterically naive. The fun thing about being married to guys like this is that at we don’t get all the ethics training they get but we can 100% make mistakes that end their careers.

If someone puts up a flag, upside down, and doesn’t notice for weeks that they’re flying the flag against code, they might not be “flag” people.

Yeah but you probably got guidance. My husband was a low level nobody in an agency that definitely had rules and both he and I abided by them, as I’m sure you did, too.

Just Samuel up here thinks he can do whatever he wants, which, to be fair, the GOP has said he can.

I mean...no. And Alito already said this isn't what happened. Nor did he disavow it in any way.

My husband was too professional to even express a political opinion. As it should be. He didn’t discuss politics with anyone. His own children didn’t even know where he stood politically until he retired. I shared my opinions with my friends but would never publicly take a position, no. I didn’t volunteer on campaigns until he retired. I can’t emphasize this enough but that is how it should be for roles that are non partisan and it’s sad that this seems to shock people.
