How many teachers are leaving your school next year?

It looks like you don’t have to have only taught in PW, but their highest entry step is step 19, so a 30 year teacher in fcps would only be able to start at step 19. They could continue up from there to the 30 year step if they want.

A 30 year teacher probably isn’t going to switch, but a younger teacher or new graduate might choose PWCPS over FCPS when looking up the scale. I imagine someone commuting from Stafford or PW would consider a switch.

I did the Stafford to Springfield commute for a while and it was absolutely brutal. If I saw this scale and still lived in Stafford I would have 100% switched to PW.

PW has a "new teacher" scale and a "certified/instructional" scale. What's the difference?

No idea, but everyone that I know in PWCS LOVES the schools there. I have not heard single person complain.

I live in Western Fairfax County and two of my neighbors teach in Prince William.

How long do you think Reid is going to last as superintendent? I feel like the no steps and no 6% is going to have a lot of people upset.

Where is this coming from?

The memo said 6% and no step. The School Board adopted it and the county has increased property taxes to make sure it happens.

The SB adopted it, but the county BOS is not fully funding it.

They are not fully funding other items in the FCPS budget; they are committed to the 6% to teachers and nonadmin; they reserved not to fund 6% to the top admin earners.

Which memo?

My school is really small (2 teachers per grade k-5 so 12 teachers total) 4 are leaving that I know of! 4/12! I’m not surprised though, given how rough the job is and how underpaid they are.

Is there any other profession that complains louder than teachers?
Anonymous
I will say that teacher culture tends to lean on the negative side because deep down most people don’t think that things are going to get better.

They are falling further behind Prince William Co.

In pay/benefits?

Definitely in pay, especially compared to housing costs that are a bit lower. I know they won’t have any healthcare premium increases for the duration of their new contract (3 years).
