Hard pass. Btdt twice - don’t entertain relocation unless it’s somewhere you and your family want to live and there is enough long term economic incentive to do it.
For me, the dream jobs terms the kept changing as I got deeper in. Including time to move, relocation package, days in office, bonus structure, etc. couple that with inflated housing market and higher interest rates plus lost income for spouse even a lower cost of living state worked out as a net loss. |
I would suggest doing this at the beginning of the process if it is a deal breaker. You don’t want to waste your time or there time. For the company this is probably about senior management optics and your role as a people manager than your ability to do your job from far away so I would try to address those concerns. It is conceivable you could start off in a manageable situation and the company could ask you to adjust down the line. This is happening at the company where my husband works. It is a big bank with a pro-office culture. A few folks were hired during the pandemic from far flung locations. In 2022 and 2023 they were able to come in 2-3 days a week but things have ramped up more and the bank has told them that has to change. It’s creating some havoc in their lives. |
