DC is IN:
NNAT 128, COGAT 131 IReady 99th for math and reading. HOPE scores were a mixed bag: 2 always, 4 almost always, 3 often, 2 sometimes. Marked "exceptional talent" for math and reading. |
My child had the same HOPE and similar test scores. Did not get in at our school that has a large asian population, LOL (child is not asian) |
What pyramid? |
Do any kids get “always” for the human concerns HOPE question? That one seems so hard for a teacher to see in classroom when 2nd grade that if I were teacher I’d read a story on poverty or homelessness or Ukraine and if kid listens and does assignment I would rate as “always” v saying “sometimes” or “never.” |

Teacher must have really thought your child belonged in the program. Congrats. Clearly where they need to be. |
Obviously this kid "does all the right things" from the perspective of the teacher. Compare this to those rejected kids who have similar scores, but have low HOPE. Is it teacher bias? Or do teachers have an idea of what behavioral traits lead to better AAP outcomes? |
Probably so highly teacher dependent as to be impossible to describe. Compare a 20 year FCPS veteran teacher deeply beloved by all her students who talks regularly with colleagues to a grumpy teacher who doesn't actually like kids and needs everything her way or a total newbie who probably doesn't belong in the profession but doesn't know that yet, stuff like that. This is part of why, at least at our school, there is substantial jockeying to get the "right" 2nd grader teacher. It's not just that the right teacher is good, it's also that she gets more people into AAP. |
Excuse me, what? What school? Title I? |

You don't think they can tell the kids that spend 2 hours at a Learning Center every day and lick windows? |
Anyone know what the iReady Math for 1st grade assesses? |
The highest possible score on everything and rejected. ![]() |
Fake news |
Similar at my title I, then we transfered to a center. No test prep, great teacher packet though. Transfered from Montessori school. |
