Yes but Meadow is our age and our in laws are the mafia or mafia adjacent. |
When I watched it with my H we kept looking at each other... like OMG, that's your mom, OMG, that's uncle Tony, OMG, that's uncle Sam (Savino), OMG... |
| Phil was the best character on the show by a mile. |
| I love this show too and recently re-watched the entire thing. It reminded me a little of when I was growing up in CT in the 80s (I know it was filmed in the 90s but there's similarities in terms of bad taste being universal). I had a friend at HS whose dad was in jail for being in organized crime, and yes she was Italian American. |
| Some of the earlier season episodes were very cheesy. And all the shrink scenes should be skipped. |
|
I recently watched it for the first time. I was a bit young when it came out so never watched it live (and was poor so no HBO lol). I was shocked by the amount of random crime committed. I used to think "Oh its fine they only shoot each other" but no, they were just out there killing random innocent people who had done nothing. Yikes.
I liked how it constantly made fun of toxic masculinity and showed a lens that hadn't been shown before for the times. I loved watching the technology change. Seeing the cell phones (razr especially!) was such a blast from the past. I also dressed exactly like Meadow in the later seasons so that was fun to reminisce about too. |

1/2 Italian(calabrian) 1/2 Irish. Dad's side italian--grew up right on border of NYC in connecticut. Mom was also from Connecticut.
I loved the Sopranos. The food. The food was a main character. If you are Italian you understand. And, the '7 fishes' Xmas Eve dinner episode in 'Bear'. Classic. |
100% my husband and I watched it on HBO when it first came out and you had to wait an entire week for the next episode. So many things we missed the first time and it was so great to watch it all over again with our teen sons. My 18-year old cites it as his favorite TV series, along with Curb Your Enthusiasm. I have done my job well. |
Cutting garlic paper thin in jail. |
| I do rewatches almost exclusively now. I'm on to Boardwalk Empire, I can't get over how downright mean Knucky was to that German assistant of his. |
That was Goodfellas, but yeah. |
The shrink parts are boring. |
The weird thing about the Seven Fishes in the Bear is that Midwestern Italians don’t really do this. It is an East Coast thing. I even read that they don’t do it in Italy. |
| Uncle Junior and the old ladies in the nursing home remind me so much of my older Italian relatives that it is creepy. The clothes and glasses and the things they say are spot on. |
And putting the extra rolls in their purses. |
