Opposite for me.

WHAT?

There are different levels of viewers.... this is what they used to call a "hits & tits" viewer.
It takes a multiple viewings to gain a fuller appreciation and nuance.

It definitely does not require repeat viewings to get the nuance. It's a good show but it's not that deep.

The shrink scenes are painfully cringe. So forced. Same with the more modern show Billions.

A lot of it was so goofy and over the top. The first season especially is super corny.

My mom grew up in an Italian family (with tangential ties to the NYC mob) and she always talked about how the family/social aspects of the show were totally on point.

A second viewing definitely is worthwhile.

The Sopranos is very well written, a master class in TV drama.

It was well worth watching more than once, but the same thing strikes me now that struck me the first episode I saw at a friend’s house when it was first run on HBO.

SO much misogyny.

It makes them look like losers in the end. The "winner" of the series was the Jewish retired record exec, Herman "Hesh" Rabkin. He was richer and lived a more lavish life than any of the family bosses and didn't have to worry about being whacked. In fact, he even ridiculed Tony to his son in law, basically calling Tony a broke piker who lived beyond his means and pissed his money away. In the end, the series ended with Tony indebted to Hesh over gambling debts.

It’s a fantastic show. The characters of Tony and Carmela, in particular, are <chef’s kiss>

The ending was really disappointing

I think Breaking Bad had all the drama and great acting of Sopranos but fewer F bombs, which made it a better show in my opinion. The language in Sopranos at times was lazy writing .

I’m afraid to ask, but how do you know this?

I like the dated, relic of the past shows. They are so much better than the unfunny, vapid, politically correct, socially conscious/nauseatingly diverse, uncreative, boring shows of today.

I never watched Sopranos because I don’t care to get into the psyche of a mobster, but I’m positive that it’s much better than any new show.[/quote

Oh wow have you never seen TLC and all it's glory promoting only adoption and how wonderful all those reunions are when in reality that is not the truth. Or Seeking Sister Wives another Bible-thumping horrific abuse of women. Or Polygamy like the Browns where they promote getting on social service programs the more the better, not like Kody or Janelle's supposed careers supported those kids the state did. Oh, and the Duggars that were just lovely, and the Huckabees good old Sarah and her creepy daddy old gov Mikey went to bat for them many times. All of these are examples of RW garbage TV.

I can go on and on about many shows on TV that show RW crap.

Tell us you are a stupid Republican oh wait you just did in your post. Right now you have the right to choose what you watch, when Republicans take over that is over. Do you think Russians control the content on their TV's or Chinese do????

Amazing show and such an accurate depiction of growing up in New Jersey in the 90’s. They capture so much nuance of growing up there, from the mannerisms, to wardrobe, to interior design, to speech patterns, etc.

I was very disappointed until I read an explanation of the intentional sequence of the camera shots in setting up the obvious ending.
