If MCPS is so bad

I honestly think this is why DCUM considers them “better”.

Exactly, it's like going back in time 30-40 years to when there was less racial and economic diversity.

So much is exposure at home. My kid who had most of their education in mcps, religious private now but considering returning, gets mid 90th percentiles on MAPs but literally never learned basic English grammar, punctuation, etc. in MCPS but got straight As in MCPS too. I have to teach them this myself. Also had to do a lot of translating of content into something understandable/engaging.

Is MCPS really that much better for special needs? I hear so many complaints from parents of dyslexic kids about how MCPS has not served them.

Perhaps it is better for kids with ADHD and autism but no LD?

I know they try to serve kids with SN, just not sure how well it is working with such big classes...

My point is that this should not depend on the book/English education level/privilege of parents and being able to make time at home for this. When i was in MCPS all this was taught well in school, when teachers had agency to use their own curriculum, were paid relatively way better, and had way lower cost of living in MoCo.

My kids teachers in ES spend 90% of their time with 2-3 students with serious behavioral issues. They don't have time to teach.

Instead of admin making structure and ci sequence for normalized dangerous behavior the stand by watch the appalling behavior happen and put it on the teaacher appraisal report and then it goes on the teachers permanent record as a blemish. No one supports or values the teachers work. This is why the shortage will not get better for a while unless admin and the Boe are blamed and shamed for their poor management abilities.

This sounds so awful

So if parents are expected to teach their own children... why do we waste billions on this public education system? I don't know if you are new to this country, but our public education system was adequate for decades, without tutors and parental intervention, in preparing students to make the United States the innovation center of the world. This is definitely a downhill slide...

DP
There was always parental intervention. Parents have to be involved for a successful education. Schools cannot do everything by themselves.

Sure this is true if you don’t count the many kids it left behind or didn’t serve at all.

Does it matter if MCPS is best in MD? If all are bad, who cares which county is best?

And do people realize just how good school districts are outside NYC and in CT and Boston suburbs?

The county is too big to ever be good.

American students are not the innovators for the most parts. The good jobs go to the foreigners who have infrastructures in their countries that promote education so they can come to america for the good jobs. We americans fund it and acquire the debt of it because our government is si corrupt and broken its only a way to exploit American tax payers. The workers for the most part can't even afford Healthcare or education.
