So much is exposure at home. My kid who had most of their education in mcps, religious private now but considering returning, gets mid 90th percentiles on MAPs but literally never learned basic English grammar, punctuation, etc. in MCPS but got straight As in MCPS too. I have to teach them this myself. Also had to do a lot of translating of content into something understandable/engaging.[/quote]

So if parents are expected to teach their own children... why do we waste billions on this public education system?  I don't know if you are new to this country, but our public education system was adequate for decades, [b]without tutors and parental intervention[/b], in preparing students to make the United States the innovation center of the world.  This is definitely a downhill slide...[/quote]

There was always parental intervention. Parents have to be involved for a successful education. Schools cannot do everything by themselves.[/quote]
