Oddest school field trips?

Also went to the Tootsie Roll factory, which was, hands-down, one of the most depressing places ever. I think in my head, I had visions of Willy Wonka, so the contrast was stark.

I came here to post about the Wonder Bread Factory! Unfortunately we did not get to go to any candy factories.

I lived in SoCal as a kid and in Elementary school took multiple field trips to both Sea World and the San Diego Zoo.

Considering how both of these places keep innocent animals/mammals in captivity I don’t think it was proper.
Also while I loved a field trip to Mickey D’s I know that todays kids will never get a chance to visit there and receive free 🍟s.

I know our neighborhood es walks to the local Giant up the street when the kids are in K and part of the tour includes the freezer.

Honestly, I think the kids have a blast, so I’m not complaining. It just cracks me up.

I love the Kennedy Center trip they do to see the Orchestra - my girls both took dressing up for that day very seriously.

Field Trip to a key lime pie factory. I actually loved this one but was surprised someone thought a bunch of 7 yr olds would be interested.

A 4th grade overnight trip to a Boy Scout camp site where we slept 4-5 in a cabin with no adults anywhere nearby. A friend’s “boyfriend” spent the night in ours. We were only 9/10 and nothing bad happened at all, but can you imagine now?

We visited the women’s prison on Riker’s island and got a tour of the bread making facility there. Very random.

We went to an opera at the Met which was about incest and even then (2nd grade), I remember thinking this was a really strange choice and my parents being appalled.

My kids haven’t done anything particularly. Mostly museums, Kennedy Center and sporting events.

We went to what is now 6 Flags NE but was then Riverside to take our AP Physics final senior year of high school. Looking back I’m not entirely sure why they allowed us to take our homemade measuring tools on the rides, along with notebooks and pencils to write down the measurements. That simply doesn’t seem safe.

We refuse to set foot in that wretched place (Kennedy Center). They host and encourage bigoted theater companies who promote religious intolerance by performing the play Book of Mormon.

I am not LDS, by the way. I simply don’t support hate-groups or religious bigotry.

Soooo I’m guessing you haven’t seen it. One of the writers called it his love letter to religion - and it is. The point of the show is that religion has tremendous power to do good in the world so long as it doesn’t get bogged down in details that have been interpreted/misinterpreted by humans to suit their own interests. Sorry you didn’t know.

+1. I hope PP also boycotts the largest theater venue in every major city, because I promise you they’ve all hosted the National Tour too.

^^ It’s also at the National downtown right now, so don’t go there either!

Then I hope your boycotting the national theater as well because it’s playing there now.
