If you think they are illegally discriminating on the basis of race, you should FOIA admissions data rather than anonymously speculating about this.

All the drama over SWW but Banneker is the worst! If you are going on qualifications, how does a kid get at least an interview at SWW but not at Banneker? SWW is GPA based so I get that(regardless of how I feel about the process). Admissions is not guaranteed anywhere but to not even interview a kid is BS. The so called holistic process is a game to keep the Title I designation and money. Sounds awful but that appears to be what they are doing.

If you don't get any notification from Banneker by the lottery change deadline, 3/15, reorder your list! Don't screw yourself...

Just so you know, reordering your list doesn't actually change your chances of getting into other schools if you don't get into Banneker.

I don't think there's anything wrong with anonymously speculating about this. Discrimination on the basis of race is why the SWW process was changed, clearly. It's already entered the conversation. And, by the way, FOIA requests are not the only way to proceed WRT discrimination on the basis of race, legally speaking.

It's about admittance to your other choices. You have to assume no interview=no admittance. So it does matter!

No, it doesn't. Study up about the lottery process.

No, it really doesn’t. If your kid isn’t identified as eligible by an application high school, the lottery process works exactly as if they never applied in the first place. Automatically, without you or your kid doing anything.

So a kid is eligible for Banneker, SWW, and McKinley Tech. But never gets an interview from Banneker and leaves it as their first choice it's all good? It won't matter that other kids ranked SWW #1. That's what your saying???

That is correct

The crazy stuff posted on this site about Banneker is really OTT.

Not sure that is the case. I wonder what racial application data looks like. Can't accept students that don't apply!

SWW and Banneker might be looking at different things in the recs. And Banneker also has the online essay to take into account, which SWW does not. Therefore, the kid may look different to each school. DUH! Also, your assumption that a kid who got an invite to SWW should automatically get one to Banneker is gross—your assumption is that SWW is sooooo much better, so if THEY have a kid an interview, of course Banneker should. WTH. Also, your comment about title 1 OUT OF LINE. First of all, Banneker has worked its butt off to become the school they are—with families who don’t have money to pay for teams of tutors. They deserve all the accolades they have, and YOU clearly don’t belong there. You think all the hard work that administrators, teachers, and kids put into generating the excellence at Banneker means all they care about is MONEY? And news flash: they don’t know your salary, or my salary, or ANYONE’S salary who applies. What the hell is wrong with you? As a prospective parent of Banneker, I’m so glad you might not be there. The way you came on here with that racist BS is vile.

So numerous Black kids that were not even interviewed by Banneker get admitted to SWW. So explain to me how it's racist? Looking for different things-great. But no interviews is BS. Don't care about you being a perspective parent. Been there done that-twice! No one said anything about salary. It is what it is so believe what you want...

DP. I have no idea why you are so riled up.

It’s a well known fact that Banneker favors and takes black kids from underserved communities.

You don’t need to know families salaries. It’s pretty safe to know from the middle school the kids are coming from what the SES level likely is of the family.

So, has anyone's kid gotten notice of an interview in the last week?
