With over 1000 applicants, this is a non-issue. In fact, per DC, most of their close friends got in from the waitlist.

Really? Because when I look at the data here https://public.tableau.com/app/profile/aaron2446/viz/MSDCSeatsandWaitlistOfferData_draft/MSDCPublicDisplay, I see for SY 22-23 that 220 seats were offered, 171 kids matched, and 0 were waitlisted. So what happened to those 49 unmatched seats?

In SY 23-24, it says 240 seats offered, 240 matches and 72 waitlisted, and then 70 offers made. So maybe they exhausted the waitlist, maybe there were two kids left on the waitlist. But if they had exhausted the waitlist and still had spots, how would they be filled?

Their info seems to always be off, but I have no clue by how much. I do not know how many students they accepted overall, but there are 255 freshman.

PP here. Take this with a grain of salt, but my DC mentioned that there was a glitch where more students were accepted from the waiting list than intended. Some of their friends were in the 100s and got in.

That's exactly what I'm saying. There's something not adding up, not transparent, and my 10+ years of experience with DCPS has taught me not to trust that things are being done ethically.

Nothing. Some schools offer more seats than they can actually accommodate because they don’t want to look like they need to go deep into their waitlist to fill the seats. So they match 300 but know only 150 are actually going to show up because of lottery churn.

So does everybody get notified, one way or another? We still have not heard anything from Banneker.

After our interview, which we felt went well, they said that would be our last interaction with them until the lottery. So I’d imagine if you don’t get an interview you would also find out on April 1 as well.

Banneker does not let you know (like Walls does) that you were not eligible for an interview. They will just let you know in April that you didn’t get in.

That's kind of a dick move.

So we just got our interview notification for next week. Question for those who have done this before, how long did the whole process take? From walking into the school until walking out?

Trying to figure out how many meetings I need to move.

All the drama over SWW but Banneker is the worst! If you are going on qualifications, how does a kid get at least an interview at SWW but not at Banneker? SWW is GPA based so I get that(regardless of how I feel about the process). Admissions is not guaranteed anywhere but to not even interview a kid is BS. The so called holistic process is a game to keep the Title I designation and money. Sounds awful but that appears to be what they are doing.

If you don't get any notification from Banneker by the lottery change deadline, 3/15, reorder your list! Don't screw yourself...

Ours took about an hour, a little more maybe. We had a 9 a.m. slot and the interviewers were still talking with the kid before DC, so after DC wrote their essay, we had to wait a bit. That was a good chance to chat with some current students.

It wouldn't screw you to keep Banneker wherever you originally put it in your list--if you don't get an interview, you're not getting a spot, so it will not affect whether you get seats at any other high school.

I do know some kids from a couple of years ago who got interviews at SWW but not at Banneker. Who knows why.

I'd also say about an hour.

I’m guessing they intentionally want to keep the school majority AA
