Senior parents - how many applications this cycle?

Anonymous
13 - 11 EA and 2 RD
3 likely, 4 target, 6 target/reach
So far:
Accepted at all likely + target
Target/Reach: Denied at 2, WL at 1, Deferred at 1 and waiting to hear from 2

It’s not crazy at all. Those of us who need merit apply to many schools. Families who don’t need merit, don’t have to apply to as many.

Someone who needs merit is not applying to 7 ivies and additional reaches. That person is prioritizing prestige.

Or maximizing likelihoods. If it is legal to do, I say let them have at it. Who we to judge.

Every kid is different. For some, having put in the Hs grind, they really want to max out on admissions possibilities to see what they could get. The system is totally awful. Will be glad when it is done.

This is admirable. Parents take heed.
We have an 11th grader. Next year they will be making one application to 7 of the colleges of the University of California (we are in state).

That was our plan. Though he applied to a reach (with a hook). Deferred
So 25 apps later

Two. One safety and one target. Got in both EA. Choosing the target.

-1 safety EA (admitted in November)
-8 reaches, including an ED/SCEA app (which was denied in December)
-4 targets

DC is okay with the safety, which allowed DC to be more aggressive in pursuing reaches. Predictably, DC added a 2-3 schools in RD after the ED denial. Personally, I wish DC had submitted an ED2 app, but DC was steadfastly against it.

Can you share the name of the safety?

And what happened if they don't get to those schools? Please don't just limit to 1 school, college admission is unpredictable.
