The left is usually better about taking care of our soldiers. The right is generally less concerned about spending gobs of money on military contractors. |
Well, that’s a take, I suppose. |
|
Left:
Absolute abortion rights. Single issue voter on this issue. National paid family leave and free preK which will actually address the root cause of our falling birth rates. Very skeptical of our relationship with Israel Right: Women-only spaces must be allowed to exist and the experience of biological women and girls shouldn’t be supplanted by the experience of trans women, which is valid in itself but is not (and cannot be) the same. |
More women in science and research needs to be a national priority as well. It’s amazing how trans can change their genders but childbirth isn’t easier than it was in the Stone Ages. Scientists are now trying to create male uteruses with fetus transplants and womb transplants . Men always come first in science.. |

I guess the side effect of money going to male uteruses is maybe funding agencies will actually care about childbirth now. Lord knows it’s not an interest when it only involves females and their health issues. |
Seriously? Infection related to childbirth couldn't even be treated until the 1930s when sulfa drugs came into use. Maternal mortality rate was somewhere between 1/100 and 1/200. A millennium earlier, archeological digs in one area of England found the average age of death for women was 33, with the neonatal mortality rate for mother AND child somewhere between 30% and 70%. |
Does that mean we would get these holidays the French do: Easter Monday, Ascension Day, Whit Monday, Feast of the Assumption, and All Saints Day? |
So your point is that since we are better off than England in the 1030, everything is fine? My standards are higher. |

Left wing: we should pay a stipend to encourage citizens to have babies.
Extreme right wing: 1) we should use violent punishments for felons, such as caning. We should have more executions. DeSantis was right when he made pedophilia punishable by death in Florida. 2) we need a return to traditional values. This isn't code for "no gay people" because there should be gay marriage. But we should get back to when we loved America and God, and people felt morally accountable to their families. |
The left wing wants to pay a stipend to have more babies? Who is saying that? |
They want to subsidize daycare. Etc. Same thing. |
That doesn’t seem like the same thing to me. However, in honor of the discussion, my thoughts on this: Left-wing: Subsidized high quality daycare is important and should be provided extensively. Right-wing: Surrogacy is exploitative and cruel, and should be banned. |
|
Left wing: abortion should be supported, at all stages of pregnancy. It is a woman’s right.
Right wing: Israel should receive full U.S. support Women rights have been chipped away by trans rights and that is not ok |
OP - I agree with you. Apart from culture war oversimplifications. most people don’t fall neatly into one camp or another. Immigration in particular has never conformed to simplistic right left typologies. Also what counts as left wing here, is often centrist in other rich countries . For example, supporting universal health care. That said - For me, positions that tend to be most polarizing are: Left I support: 1. full reproductive rights for women and girls although I would never get an abortion myself. 2. Universal health care 3. Predictable pathways to legal migration for qualified candidates 4. Student loan forgiveness and subsidization of tertiary education for essential workers such as health care workers, teachers and police 5. Sensible gun controls 6. Livable minimum wage Right I support 1. Closed/ tightly controlled borders for illegal immigrants 2. Increased funding for police training and execution 3. Tax breaks for married couples with kids (mainly as an incentive because a lot of research indicates there are many advantages to children growing up in two parent married households) 4. Stronger enforcement cases against drug peddlers (focus on distributors not on petty end users) 5. Tax breaks for small businesses since they employ the largest number of Americans. Universal health care would be a huge help as that is a major cost for small businesses who want competitive hires. |
