Left:
want to increase social safety net

Right:
Voted against legalization of marijuana, though I don't believe in criminalizing it, believe it should be used for medicinal purposes, but I don't want to smell it out in public. I am personally not a fan of recreational drugs.
Sometimes war and military actions are justified
A strong military is important and I respect those who choose a military career as serving the country.

What does “anti climate change agenda” mean? Do you disbelieve in climate change as a whole or do not want government action?

Anonymous wrote:The premise behind my question is that I don't think most people fall directly into the party line, agreeing with the entire ideological package of one side versus another - but I also don't think that those who lie in the center take the exact middle position on everything. I bet a lot of people are a mishmash of all kinds of different views.

I'm firmly on the left, but my most right wing views are:
Crime - it's a serious issue and I want some no-nonsense law enforcement and better police staffing especially in our cities.
The "border" and immigration - I put "border" in quotes because it's really not the border but illegal overstays. We need a streamline policy to enforce immigration law, not allow visa overstays and zero tolerance on drugs and gangs, we need to do this first and then reform the asylum process, hire more immigration professionals and develop a coherent, humanitarian, but firm approach.

My most leftwing views:
Environment - we need to get serious about reducing emissions and reducing plastic particle pollution. Even if it hurts economically for a time.
I'm also somewhat socialist on basic-needs type things like healthcare and housing.

I could have pretty much written this OP.

If you are anti crime—being pro-life will only make crime rate go up.

+1 Its realness isn’t up for debate.

- Climate change is real and serious, and we need urgent governmental action to combat it.
- Strong public education is a critical public good. Teachers should be well-paid. Teachers should have a good pension, should be able to make a lifelong career of teaching, and should feel safe in their classrooms.
- Gun control is necessary and guns are a massive public health threat.
- Abortion is healthcare and reproductive rights are critical to women’s health and safety. The campaign against abortion is a campaign to harm women and children. Forcing a raped child or adult woman to have a child is state-sanctioned torture.
- The death penalty can never be equitably applied and innocent people have been executed, so it should be banned.

Right:
- Crime is a serious issue and it is a public good to arrest people for crimes they committed. The progressive approach to crime does not work. Vagrancy can be a crime.
- Men cannot become women, and vice versa, and the belief that they can switch is a religious belief, not a scientific one. Women’s identities in particular, given the thousands of years of extreme violence women have faced for being women, are not a costume to be put on by privileged men. Sex-based rights are critically important for women and men’s religious beliefs on gender should not be used to destroy hard-fought progress for women.
- A strong US military is important. The military should be well-funded, disciplined, and well-compensated. China is a real military threat, and there will always be the need to react to attacks.
- Injection centers and other pro-drug approaches do not help addicts.

This is a really interesting argument about gender identity, and definitely hits on my irritation with terms like "birthing person," for exactly what you outlined here. "People" don't give birth. Women do. And traditionally were dying in their thousands and hundreds of thousands to do it. Anyway.

I don't really care if someone is trans. I do think that the ideology around it has gotten completely out of hand.

Right:
-two parent families are better for society than single parents (or ones where the parents get divorced and then marry new people and make new babies)

-Women give birth. Not birthing people and it infuriates me when I hear “birthing person”’or “chest feeding”. I think trans is a kind of mental illness or like what someone said above, a religious belief.

-I don’t actually support the 2nd amendment, but it’s so important to so many people that I am unable to imagine a world without it.

-I think we should be selective about the kinds of immigrants we court. I don’t want America’s culture to be completely changed by immigration. I say open the floodgates to Mexico and Latin America. I love those immigrants. Europe and Australia too. But severely limit Muslims, Indians, and Chinese people.

Left:

-climate change should be the biggest priority for our society now

-single payer healthcare

-abortion should be between the woman and her doc and legal in almost all situations

-we need to pay teachers better if we want to attract good teachers

-much shorter prisons sentences and no death penalty. Be like Norway-max sentence for any crimes is 20 years. All drugs should be legal.

Left

-gun control (it’s harder to get a learners permit than a gun permit)

-universal health care (we have the money, insurance is a huge racket )

-Pro choice. It’s between a woman and her doctor.

-Unions.

-Universal pre K and paid maternal and paternal leave

-Free community colleges and more student loan debt reduction programs. If banks can be bailed out, our government can bail out students

-Anti war foreign policy. Wars and invasions don’t keep us safe and generally ground wars are always won by the natives defending their turf because they know the terrain and the elements.

Right wing

-Immigration. Illegal immigration is a crime. If you respect the law , you wouldn’t border hop. You would wait your turn in line like everyone else and immigrate through the proper paperwork and channels . To then be catered to financially and given free room and board when American college students aren’t given free room and board at public colleges and universities is the ultimate disrespect from our government leaders . Only prisoners and migrants get taken care of like this . It’s weird

-Pro police. Police are leaving the force en masse and are criminally underpaid. People mention teachers but teachers don’t work in the summer or on nights or weekends. Cops do. They are doing the jobs of social workers half the time by dealing with the drugged or mentally ill. It’s a hard and taxing job. Worth six figures starting salary. They do alot to keep us safe but barely get the recognition that military and other professions get .

-Queer studies or LGBTQ curriculum . This has no place in an elementary school or in cartoons . College elective? Yes. But it’s so reckless to promote to kids at an impressionable age and an age where they are more interested in same sex friendships rather than the opposite sex like in preteen and teen years. Preschool-Grade 5 is not the time to promote anything regarding sexual and gender identity

-Drugs. Marijuana should not be legal.

-IRS. Should be banned entirely .
