asfs website says school starts at 9 am

Uh, when I go to the link you posted it says this:

“School Hours: 8:50 AM – 3:50 PM”

Oh how interesting . . . someone changed it tonight. Two hours ago, it said 9:00 a.m. as start time, and even my son's teacher told me it has been 9:00 a.m. for many years, and she has been there for at least a decade.

For more than a decade, students were expected to be in their seats by 8:50. They have to be stricter about it now because some parents are lazy.

Well they added 9 minutes to the school day and then added back the five days of school they eliminated so if anything they should be able to start the day more leisurely 😂

It’s 8:50. You can get there by 8:50. My kids go to an early start school and have to be at the bus stop at 7am.

Some parents like to pull up late so they don’t have to wait in the car line

That’s interesting. Our school offers a morning recess and kids can go in the building for breakfast starting at 8:30. Instruction begins at 9:00.

Anonymous wrote:You must be new there. The previous principal was criticized for being way up in all the teachers’ business and playing favorites. She ran a very tight ship. In the end her style really worked for my kid, but there was lots of complaining.

Given the new zone for the school, just leave five minutes earlier.
.

Of course there is a lot of complaining. It’s Arlington. Parents will always have something to gripe about. Especially when it is an anonymous forum.

it's so cute when APS acts like it cares whether your kid is there or not...

Running out of things to complain about, eh? Hitting bottom of the barrel?

It's Arlington. There's always plenty to complain about!

Question, what was the previous principals job? We had a terrible experience with a new principal and even with Ton of data backing up their terrible behavior it took 2 years to kick him out. Start early! School board and any admin you can reach. Our principal was known to be difficult at his previous posting.

Seems like PP is struggling to make up good ones.

The previous principal retired after 20+ years.

And no one is trying to kick out this principal because she wants kids to arrive at school on time.

+1. APS only cares about attendance because VDOE has told them to care.

Exactly. At least one other person gets it.

This. This principal doesn't even show up every day or on time. It's hypocritical.

I’m not in this fight because I don’t know the principal at all but as a teacher surely you know that principals are often required at district meetings right? My principal has a meeting for all high school principals at least once a month and there are many other things happening at school that mean he is often in a meeting at the beginning of the day but in the building later. It’s not malfeasance , their job does in some ways take place outside of the front office.
