A shy 7yr old with an April birthday - 2nd v. 3rd grade

And when the schools come down on this, it will happen less and it will be NBD to send a June or May because there will be other kids similar in age but when everyone does this, the May kids are the youngest with some kids who are 14, 15, 16 months older. My son’s grade has multiple Jan/Feb red shirts who are turning 7 in Kinder.

Right. The acceptable redshirt month just seems to keep pushing back over the years, so it seems like maybe some sort of rules need to be put in place.

Yes, please set some rules and harder to get around deadlines. My beginning of April kid should not be in class with with multiple kids who are turning 10 before she turns 9. She should have a normal birthday for her class year.

These are not kids who had or have developmental delays. Their parents have stated they wanted their kids to be the oldest and/or have an advantage at sports.

I'm curious if any public schools have cracked down on this? We are no longer local, but it seems to be totally up to parents in our district. Our area is so heavily redshirted, it seems to be an almost foregone conclusion that summer birthdays will be redshirted. We are definitely the odd ones out for sending our DD on time, but I absolutely cannot imagine her a grade younger... and I don't think she's "omg so smart/mature/special" that outshines her being the youngest.
