Looking for a show to watch with 6th grader

I love Resident Alien but I don't know if I'd recommend it for someone who specifically dislikes science fiction. (It's kind of science fiction mixed with a Northern Exposure/quirky town vibe, again, I personally love it but it's definitely science fiction)

My kids loved Brooklyn 99 at that age, there is some questional sexual comments especially in early seasons ("That's title of your sex tape") but it's a great show with a lot of heart.

Superstore is another in a similar vein to Brooklyn 99. We're currently watching New Girl but YMMV ... all my kids are well into their teens now.

Since you mention liking animated shows, did you watch Avatar? (Kids animated show, nothing like the movies) It's very good.

My 7th grader loves the Simpsons (we started in 6th grade).

Another vote for the new Percy Jackson. We had a standing Tuesday viewing party and are bummed yesterday was the season finale.

Great British Baking Show is another family go-to for us.

My husband and daughter also watch Star Trek the Next Generation together.
