Best Period Series or Miniseries

Ekaterina (2004) - Russian with subtitles. Story of Catherine the Great, one of the best versions I’ve seen.

Sorry 2014, not 2004!

Amen, sister!

Why no season 4. Love me some Ernst.

Ah, this reminds me. I had issues with "Victoria" but not with Ernst or Albert. Especially Ernst.

I also liked the Tudors, but let's not pretend it was "almost historically accurate" on any level, PP.

If you are even a little bit of a Dickens fan, you must see the series Dickensian (2015).

Anonymous wrote:The 6 part series of Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth as Darcy produced in 1995. Best adaptation by far IMHO!

Sanditon, based on Austen's last unfinished novel, recently on PBS was fun.

I've also enjoyed the Gilded Age on HBO. Julian Fellows (Downton Abbey) wrote it.

Clicked on this thread just to post the 1995 Colin firth pride and prejudice mini series. I watch it once every few years! The sexual tension between Colin Firth and the actress playing Elizabeth is palpable. No other adaptation comes close!

Poor Jennifer Ehle, all that talent and she’s not even a household name.

I'm the pp. Just watched episodes 4 and 5 this evening. Such great tension and the shots of Pemberly. I re-watch this every year. It's the best!

If you
If you like Jennifer Ehle, there’s a rather unknown but really good movie with her in it called The River King. It came out in 2005. I remember I loved it and had never heard of it before.
