Please tell us that she no longer drives anywhere, ever. |
Wow, you are just as much an idiot as the trumpers. Here you go -- [url]https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2024/01/14/whole-foods-bethesda-car-crash-produce-section/[url] |
WP had some up and close pictures!

She doesn't now, but she did for several years after that. It isn't as easy as you think to take the keys away from a woman in her 70s whose husband has medical appointments every day. |
|
This is one of the drums I've been beating: If you are over 70 (or whatever), you cannot get car insurance unless your car has collision avoidance technology that can keep you from running over people or crashing into buildings. I get mad when my fellow older driver run over people at bus stops or sidewalk cafes.
It's not like we don't know how to fix this. |
Wow blast from the past. Back when off duty police managed traffic in the parking lot. |
I’m sorry. I’m an awful human being. As soon as I saw the sign that says “jumpstart January”, I had a giggle fit. At least I knew that no one was seriously injured before I laughed. I can sort of see hitting the front door, but how fast do you have to be driving, or what has to be going on to smash through the doors and make it to the back of the store? (As an over-cautious driver, I really would like to know.) |
PP who posted above about my mother hitting the fence. They think they're hitting the brake, but their foot is on the gas. |
This is terrifying. She could have killed someone. |
| It was probably just a woman driver. |
| I saw that on tik tok yesterday! |
| Had a relative in the store at the time. Middle age woman driver with her teen daughter in the car. Swears she had her foot on the brake. Very common to be disoriented when driving a brand new car. Amazing no one was badly injured. |
|
What happens is the driver gets confused and presses the wrong pedal. When they see it moving, they just push down even further, making it worse. Common scenario with older drivers.
The auto-braking is overridden by continuing to push on the gas pedal. |
|
I am sure she'll get off with a slap on the wrist but she should have her license suspended, at a minimum. It's her responsibility to become familar with a new car.
I don't understand how this happened. I mean-- I am assuming there's a curb that she had to drive over. What about the emergency brake if she was confused? |

Every time I hear about reports of elderly people crashing into buildings I am reminded that both major parties' likely presidential candidates are older than most of the elderly people involved in these accidents. It's terrifying on all fronts.
