Can I set up protective orders? Or do I have to wait until divorce is finalized to get child support and alimony?

Alimony, yes. Child support, no: https://dhs.maryland.gov/child-support-services/

Custody can also be secured outside of a divorce. You'll want to go to the self-help part of the family services division in your county: https://mdcourts.gov/circuit The form is here: https://mdcourts.gov/sites/default/files/court-forms/ccdr004.pdf

Protective orders are usually for violence, harassment, credible threats. Obviously, a spouse with an addiction issue is a credible threat to your household's stability, but that's not how protective orders work. https://www.courts.state.md.us/legalhelp/domesticviolence

Be careful about draining accounts. Be careful about taking advice from an anon board. Definitely speak with an attorney (or several) to discuss your options.

Obviously I’ve contacted lawyers. But my appointments are all in 2 or 3 weeks and I need info immediately.

From these lunatics? I feel really sorry for you.

Who hurt you, PP?

That’s not going to do anything. What can OP do about this right now? This isn’t the 1950s.

I’m so sorry.

Contact a divorce attorney to advise you and get a job and some help with the kids. Hopefully there are some caring neighbors or friends nearby. You can do this and you’ll all be ok.

Let the mortgage company/landlord know what you are doing right away so they can work with you on keeping you stable if possible.
