The Kardashian aesthetic looks way better on women with melanin The most cringe is melanin having women rocking prep aesthetic |
| I guess I dress preppy. I thought I was just overly modest and adverse to most current trends. |
|
| Some of us are naturally preppy, no need to aspire. |
| Would you prefer goth? |
| Because it looks good on me. Nothing else really does. |
I didn’t realize that certain styles of dress were off limits for women of color. Your casual racism is the only cringe thing here. |
| I actually went to prep school. A well known New England boarding school. Trust me, none of us dressed anything close to Ralph Lauren or Vineyard Vines or whatever posers think passes for “preppy.” In fact the term “preppy” was never used by anyone I knew. What you’re seeing 99% of the time are desperate wannabes. |

I taught at a prep school and the student really did dress preppy. I don’t know labels because I didn’t pay attention, but rugby shirts, sweatpants that were big and preppy but not ratty and sloppy (I don’t know how they achieve this but it was so), girls with hair in buns and no makeup, guys in sweatshirt sure, but also quarter zips and non team baseball caps. |
Classy and timeless = WASP |
Nobody from your school had clothes from LL Bean? Ralph Lauren does fake Western ranch rich too (skirts and dresses with Western prints come to mind). And like a lot of brands, it has had a streetwear/urban moment. Those are the pieces with the 4" tall logo. My impression of Ralph Lauren men's businesswear is that it's pretty much same as Brooks Bros and Jos A Bank at a lower price point. Very typical NE menswear. No trendy patterns in the fabric. Vineyard Vines seems fake to me but I don't know the origin story. I think it's trying to go for what Lilly Pulitzer used to be famous for back in the day. Their merchandise seems overpriced for the quality. What's mainly missing these days are the cutesy repeated prints and the strange handbags. It's been forever since I've seen a wicker handbag with a fake scrimshaw on it. Coach used to be preppy but when they reinvented themselves with C logo prints and wild colors they sold their brand's soul to the devil. |
| I have been dressing this way since high school and that was 40 years ago. I don't really think about it, I just dress the way I like to dress. |
Oh get over yourself you ridiculous snob. People wear preppy clothes because they like how they look. No one is trying to be like you. |
We aren’t trying to be you. We don’t think about you at all. |
