Do you let your 13 year old use Uber Teen?

Can you look for someone who could either pick up on regular basis, or sit for an hour with your younger kids while you pick up your older child?

I feel safer with her doing that than taking the subway home alone late, though she typically just takes the subway everywhere. She typically isn’t coming home later than 9, but if she were I would be fine with it, especially as I get a notification whenever she gets a ride. And if another parent is stating until the car picks her up that’s an extra level of protection. As does the Uber teen feature which only allows for more highly screened drivers.

Why can’t you get her?

Because I have 2 other children and a job and can’t be in 3 places at once.

You have to be at work, at home with 2 children, and at your 14 year old’s sports practice all at once? You’re way over scheduled. You’re stretched thin and accommodating a sports practice that ends at 10 pm shouldn’t be your main concern.

I’m not the op - I didn’t say it’s at 10pm, it’s generally a lot earlier. And no 14yo needs to be picked up by mommy from every activity.

Wait, if you're not the OP, why are you answering?

I'm confused, does the activity that the OP's kid wants to do end at 10 pm each time?

I'm not a frequent Uber user, but my concern is whether or not an Uber teen will even be available at that time/one that is willing to drive half an hour away?
10 pm is kind of late and if I were an Uber driver willing to go through the extra screening/responsibility of driving teens, I wouldn't want to accept assignments that late.
Can the teen rides be scheduled in advance?
-I'm not the OP.

We use Waymo. No driver. Technically you have to be 18 but we’ve never had a problem. Lots of teens use it where we live.

At the risk of sounding sexist, is your child a boy or girl? I say this because I have a very mature 14 year old boy who looks like he’s 16 and he rides Uber teen in the day ( we haven’t done it at night yet). But there’s no way I’d let my more immature daughter who is 13, but looks 11, in a car with a stranger. The odds of getting sexually abused or anything going wrong would be higher in her case.

I’m would either find a sitter for the little kids while they sleep or hire a driver I know and trusted.

It’s not sexist. I’m a PP and said I let my son take it in middle school. He was big at 13 and now at 15 he's taller and bigger than DH. He looks like a grown man. I wouldn’t feel comfortable with my tiny 5’2 daughter alone in an Uber.

I'd say the answer is I wouldn't purposely choose to let my child do an activity that ends around 10.

I'm pretty annoyed our child's sport does end around 10 a few times a week due to location rental. It really screws with their sleep schedule to get home, unwind, sometimes finish homework and eat.

DC's friend is the same age and takes Ubers regularly from an activity but it's a different activity that ends a couple hours earlier.

I'm confused. Your child's activity ends at 10, and you're judging me for having my child in an activity that ends at 10?

Maybe the PP decided to not have another baby when she already had a teen. Huge difference
