Do you let your 13 year old use Uber Teen?

How?

My youngest is 2, and it’s a sport practice that ends at 10.

How do you end up a single mom with a 13 yr old and a 2 yr? Not trying to be snarky just trying to imagine the scenario.

I'm not a single mom, but I'm not sure what's hard to imagine. I had kids over an 11 year spread, and then got divorced.

I feel safer with her doing that than taking the subway home alone late, though she typically just takes the subway everywhere. She typically isn’t coming home later than 9, but if she were I would be fine with it, especially as I get a notification whenever she gets a ride. And if another parent is stating until the car picks her up that’s an extra level of protection. As does the Uber teen feature which only allows for more highly screened drivers.

Why can’t you get her?

I wouldn’t be comfortable with an Uber on regular basis, and having my kid ride at 10 pm with a different driver every week or more often than that.

Can you look for someone who could either pick up on regular basis, or sit for an hour with your younger kids while you pick up your older child?

No, I would not let my kid take an Uber alone at 10pm.

I let my newly turned 14 yo son take an Uber with a friend to or from sports during the daylight for a year when practices started before we got out of work. Never alone and always with a friend.

I would say no to the activity or take the 2 year old in the carseat sleeping for pick up.

Op, is this a one time activity or will it be recurring?

OP is your child a boy or girl? If a girl, it’s a hard no for me. A boy, maybe.

Paying a neighborhood teen to sit in your house with your sleeping kids might be the real solution - would probably cost less than a 30m Uber too

Because I have 2 other children and a job and can’t be in 3 places at once.

Did you know the times before signing up for the activity? Because it doesn’t seem to work for your family. I would just have said no.

Any way, another option could be to check on your neighborhood group or something to get the same person to drive your child, rather than a different Uber driver each time. I would maybe consider that, if it was truly unavoidable.

This is the best idea, do this.

We are in a time when we can't say no to our kids when they want to do something, so we put them in weird, expensive situations to make sure their wants are fulfilled.

This won't work out for your family. It's ok. Your kid will be fine if you say no. This activity won't make or break them.

Not for a girl unless another kid was going to be with them.

You have to be at work, at home with 2 children, and at your 14 year old’s sports practice all at once? You’re way over scheduled. You’re stretched thin and accommodating a sports practice that ends at 10 pm shouldn’t be your main concern.
