Do grandparents always favor the first born grandchild?

I favor whoever is most well-behaved at the moment, whoever brings me what I need first, or whoever wants to do what I want to do in the moment. "Who wants to read a book with Nana?" "Who wants to keep me company while I make the potatoes?" "Who can bring my book to the table?" "Who wants to go for a walk with Nana?"

I tell each one they're my favorite.

No. In my family the favored grandchildren are those of the son. Sons are everything, and their children share in the spotlight. Daughters, meh.

In my experience, the first born were only favored under extenuating circumstances. In my family, kids there were the only grandchild for 6-13 years, kids who lived FT with grandparents 2+ years (either as a multi-Gen household or due to parental illness), and kids who had a disability or health issue. Otherwise, the favorite was just as likely a personality thing.

Sorry, that should say parental absence, not illness.

Not in my family. I’m one of six and have always been the black sheep of the family, but my mother definitely favors my children.
