It is beyond naive to think one family staying in an untenable situation can improve a school. It’s stuck in some relic of thinking from 20 years ago was proven idiotic back then. |

My child attended KIPP (shaw campus though), and while it has a really bad reputation among white parents, I didn't find it to be anything like it's reputation. The teachers were loving, kind, expectations were age appropriate, and the strategies for getting kids to meet expectations were loving and fun. We did ultimately move to VA after my child's 6th grade year, and the middle school wasn't a great fit, but for early education and elementary it was fantastic.
I don't have experience with the EOTR campuses though, and my child is now in high school, so my experience is fairly dated. |
Because I already have a full time job. How is it in my child’s best interest to suffer in the near term while I expend energy and resources to lay seed to improvements that he will never enjoy. This is not how I choose to spend my limited time and bandwidth; the ROI makes no sense. |
Stokes EE parent here, have had kids there since they first opened. There does seem to be a person here on DCUM who keeps talking about the "appalling" things they saw at Stokes during a pre-pandemic visit whenever anyone mentions the school - probably you. I can only speak to our own experience: other than staying closed for way too long during COVID, we've been happy. It's been a nurturing environment for the kids, they enjoy going, and by all apparent standards are doing well academically. Great parent community too and active PTA. Is it perfect? Of course not, but they haven't given us a reason to leave. |
Peace! I know wl I'm late to the conversation, but if you happen to still be searching, there is a new Montessori microschool EOTR-- The School of Harvest. It has a distinctive focus on heritage, as well as land-based education. They have some parent information sessions coming up if you're interested. Check them out in ig @theschoolofharvest or email them at info@theschoolofharvest.org |
Take your advertising to the private school board. |
Little late to the game. The time to fleece parents with buzz words and nonsense in lieu of education was a couple years ago. Seriously. WTH does the bolded even mean? Are those things goona get my kid into college? |
Cracks me up someone mentioning a private school option on a public school forum. Not to mention the fact that it’s brand new with barely any grade levels. |
