That's really odd since the vice principal told me they were close to an all-time high when I spoke with them last week.

Wow. If that is true then admin (at least that vice principal) is lying. I have a child in the junior class of 2025 and the PSAT average for class of 2025 (first class admitted under new system) at TJ is 1352. It is right there on the score report next to my child’s score.

Believe the PP who posted average PSAT for class of 2024 (89 points above class of 2025) and the averages for earlier years. In the current senior class Something like 165 were NMSF and 180 were commended. You cannot get even close to those numbers with an average PSAT score in the 1350s. So the number of NMSF and commended in the class of 2025 will dramatically decline when announced next year.

Can someone show me where to find the school average for class of 2024? I have a senior and I only see DC's score but no school average available once logged into the College Board.

I think showing the average score for school may be a new thing this year. I looked up my child's score report from last year (sophomore) on college board and do not see the school average. But this year it does show right under my child's score. It also lists the District average and state average. I took a screengrab when scores were released a few weeks ago and the school average (junior class) on my child's score report showed 1352. However, today it shows 1351. Perhaps there was a student or two that took the PSAT on a make up day and that changed the average score. Not sure.

Are you a TJ parent of a current senior?
What colleges do 4.4 students at TJ typically get into?

yes. My kid is a Senior, right now. 4.2 W GPA. Wont get into UVA or VT or Iveys or U Cal’s ( berkely, ucla etc)

But other than these all other colleges are in play.

DC’s counsellor is very experienced and has seen 4.0 and up as the threshold that pretty much guarantees admission into a decent college

Did counselor give any indication if ED is important to get into these other schools? Or will still be competitive in RD? Are schools like WashU, Vandy, Rice “in play” with a 4.2 at TJ or have to go a tier lower?

It’s crazy that a 4.2 at TJ isn’t likely to cut it at UVA or VT….UCLA and Berkeley

Depends on the school. Eg U Washington does not do ED. But in general ED helps.

Wash U, Rice, Duke etc are well in reach for 4.2 - it then depends on type of courses taken, what the kid is applying for, EC.

Yeah.. grade inflation is rampant. For my of the last 4 years my kid has lived in mortal fear of getting a B or B- in some hard classes ( M4). Kids ay base school dont have these issues.

But the TJ name helps in the end.

+ but by not that much, to match the course rigor. Ur 4.2 kid at TJ would have been a 4.4 at base school and might have gotten into say UVa

My DC got into HYPSM, UVA and other T20 with a 4.2 GPA from FCPS base school a few years ago and classes were so much easier than “comparable” (in course name only) than my younger DC’s classes at TJ. But although TJ kid will be better prepared at college, I’m worried my 4.4 TJ kid (with good, but not tippy top rigor) will have a much tougher time with college admissions to T20 than my base school kid. Hope not though.

About many TJ kids in a given class have a 4.5+ GPA at the end of senior year?

yes T-20 might be tough. But for all other schools a TJ 4.2 and above gpa is considered very strong

Are the highest GPAs slightly lower at end of junior year? Because presumably more AP classes senior year that would raise GPA a bit?

UVA does not belong in the same league with HYPSM or other top 20 schools. Stop playing these games.

The top 10% is not documented anywhere. Only a counselor may know it or maybe a FOIA
