I Hate Save the Date

I don’t understand why they would be annoying… It’s a piece of mail, informing me that someone is getting married.

For those of us who don’t like weddings and don’t want to go, it removes plausible deniability from our “I’m busy” excuses. The bride and groom don’t care if I go or not, it’s the family around that does. I don’t like weddings.

But I can see how, if you were a social person, it’s a nice way to have some heads up.

Not OP.

You don’t say, “I’m busy.” You say, “oh shoot. I can’t attend.” No other explanation.

But Miss Manners always says if you accept one invitation you can’t cancel just because you receive a better offer later. So there is some pressure on guests if they learn about a wedding very early. Makes it harder to decline later. But I still think they are a good idea, and not arrogant.

You don’t accept a save the date. You just write it on your calendar.

365 days for a wedding is out. Is it three months? Six months? Two weeks?

This is your wedding, not a fundraiser. Don't do this
