Mean things your teen has said to you

"You're a failure."

Think about how many comments your teens have held in instead of saying them out loud. I don't think you appreciate their self control in these times.

Yikes.

I like how it's after college, when they need the money, but not before. What a brat.

I always wondered if Madeline McCann’s siblings ever said the meanest things to their parents as they hit their teens.

Same for other kids whose siblings died by parental negligence. I’m sure some kids have been tempted even if they didn’t.

Another time - I hate you. I wish I was dead.

This because I insisted on doing homework and screamed when she didn't.

We did have a talk afterwards.

It's such a fun age, isn't it?

lol, one moment I want to scream at the attitude and the meanness. Then another time she pinches both my cheeks and says I'm cute and I realize she is still a kid. I just know I will miss it when she grows up and stops pinching my cheeks.

"F.. you you fat f.."
"Eat a d.ick"
"Ma, you an a..shole."

All from a previously very polite kid. There is a lot behind it, and we have come down on it, and therapists are involved, but be glad you are not here.

The closest she got was, she had a friend she thought was really cool. The friend thought of herself as very cool also, but really was a girl who was perpetually stoned or buzzed if not drunk, always hooking up with different guys and cheating on anyone who thought he was her boyfriend, etc.

And DD said to me that the friend had always said I was square (I honestly didn't even know she knew that term) but after she'd pulled away from the friend she realized that I'm not. I wasn't hurt or offended though - I think the friend thought I was a loser for not partying or something.

What were you? Circle?

You are the epitome of motherhood.
You are not my real mother (he is adopted).

Isn’t being called the epitome of motherhood a compliment?

Maybe it was said sarcastically, with a big eyeroll. Otherwise it's a compliment!

What is your DH's reaction?

Yo! I am Indian. I am a very devoted, loving and supportive mom but I will not accept backtalk and disrespect. I have quelled disrespect very early in my children. Our family is very ok with heated discussions and differing opinions, but meanness and disrespect is never tolerated.

Mom, your chin hair is really long.

Um, you have something in your teeth.

laughing hysterically when I try on certain things in the dressing room at H&M

Your breath is terrible

You're wearing that?

Ah, the joys of having a 13 year old daughter.

Please explain exactly how one does not accept it?

My mom was controlling like you and we all talk back to her now. It's worse to receive disrespect from adult children.
