4-Star Hotel Nightmare: Is This Post-COVID Hospitality? Why I'm Leaning Towards Airbnb!

Has anyone else reading the OP get the sense that OP is an airbnb host trying to raise the brand?

Of course they are. There’s tons of airbnb horror stories on this sites. Gotta level the playing field with a few fake “hotels are soooooo bad posts”.

Curious what op considers 4 star? JW Marriott? Conrad??

OP’s “package shipment needs and laundry service times” raised some questions for me.

I had a broken fridge for a stay and had to throw out all food, along with the air mattress listed as a bed having a hole in it. The host offered to get me ice after it had been warm for hours and no other rectification and then never rated me so my review wasn't published. For a hotel you can review on trip advisor, multiple sites like booking.com, hotels.com and yelp. Not sure why you think Airbnb some sort of honesty review rate when the host can control not publishing when they know there were issues.

That's not true, after 14 days your review will be posted regardless if the host leaves a review

Also known as superior hotels, four-star hotels are large, upscale establishments, fully staffed, and complete with tons of extras. The spacious rooms are beautifully designed with premium furnishings and include luxurious touches like lavish bedding and fine bath products.

Four-star hotels offer loads of special services and amenities, including concierge services, fine dining, multiple pools, and hot tubs, high-class fitness centers, bellhops, room service, valet parking, day spas, limousine services, and an array of special suites.

I’ve rarely come across all of these amenities in supposed 4-star hotels.

I think that JW marco and JW Orlando fall into this category. Lots of three stars might try to say they are 4 star.

This

You see to put this in context. Name the hotel and location otherwise we can’t weigh in.

4 star Hilton in OCMD vs Four Seasons Nevis: apples and watermelons.

4 star hotel in Chicago or another city that is struggling to retain staff?

4 star beach resort in NC? Lol

+1 and what 4 star hotels in the US have breakfast buffets every day?

This caught my eye. No, 4 star hotels do not have breakfast buffets. They generally have fine dining options. If they are urban, there will be one or several restaurants on site. I know this because my husband gets us lavish hotel stays through work and my kids always wanted a breakfast buffet. Best I can do is sushi, kids.

That has not been my experience lately, a 4 star Hilton I stayed in recently (suburb, close to a major city) had a restaurant pre COVID but it closed and never reopened. Another 4 star in a city during peak season had a restaurant but only buffet (for a charge), no ordering off the menu. It was the same quality nasty food you’d expect at a 3 star.

I mean, is this a troll or were they living at a hotel for months?

Exactly, I feel like the ratings are down at least 1 if not 2 stars. There needs to be an audit of these places post COVID as they are getting away with murder since expectations were dialed down during COVID. Shame on them.

Going to need some data on this

My friend K and his wife had jewelry and a laptop stolen at their Airbnb in Seattle in a good building in a good neighborhood.

My friend J and his family were asleep in their luxury villa airbnb in Mexico when it was broken into. Wallets, purses, and cell phones were stolen.

I ship things to hotels, especially snacks when we go to Disney.
