Freedom of expression is nearly dead on university campuses:

Bill Ackman asked for the signatories to the letter. And if organizations can get rid of people for racist sayings or hate speech they can definitely refuse to hire people who support terrorism. Others have been fired for less. In my early days of work a co worker was asked to leave for sharing an article that remotely touched on a controversial topic. Ironically now some of these Harvard students are disavowing the letter after realizing there could be consequences.

Oh,
They can chant that. I’m Jewish and am ok with Palestinians protesting for their homeland. It makes sense. What is not ok is cheering on what Hamas did massacring kids, teens, cutting off their heads. And what we saw in Sydney with the “ gas the Jews chant”. If they say that, the school should expel these students for supporting terrorism. WTF is wrong with GW? |
As to your bolded comment - Stereotype much? This is one guy with money and a megaphone. Good for him. These student groups are not simply "supporting Palestine." They have outright said that Israel is responsible for the slaughter that Hamas has rained on them. They have not condemned Hamas. You can support the innocent people of Palestine, but when you refuse to condemn the murder of 1200 Jews and at least 22 Americans, you deserve to be called out. He wants the names so that he and other CEOs will know not to hire these people. And, I don't blame him one damn bit. |
This. Just as the Charlottesville tiki torch brigade faced employment consequences if their employers had a conscience, so should students who indicate support for brutal terrorism... if their prospective employers can find their consciences. |
Every "Karen" who has an altercation with someone on an airplane where it gets filmed gets fired. If you're good with that you should be ok with this no? |
This is exactly right. Any organization, person or group that gives tacit support to Hamas should be treated just like the KKK and neo-Nazis. Hamas are terrorists and there is no place for even tacit approval of their actions. |
They did not support Hamas, they supported innocent Palestinians, two are not the same but that is being fed to us 24/7 and we are sick of it. |
These students didn't sign a pro-Palestinian statement. They signed an anti-Israeli statement. You can have empathy for Palestinians, without thinking that Israel shouldn't be allowed to exist-- and even without thinking that Israel has done anything morally wrong in trying to contain the threat against them posed by Hamas. You aren't required to hate Jews in order to have love for Palestinians, OP. |
Bibi has given support to Hamas. Why have you not denounced him and his party? |
Cut the crap. |
No. As a pp has said... they were very much anti-Israel. And, failed to condemn Hamas. |
If they support innocent Palestinians but not Hamas, then they should be saying so with a clear condemnation of the (even just very recent) actions of Hamas. That's not what they said. They excused the atrocities perpetrated by Hamas on Israeli civilians. If employers find this attitude callous and barbaric, they should be able to take appropriate action as potential employers. |
Part of the problem here is that leftists only talk to each other, and even then only on social media. The way communities form echo chambers leads them to forget that saying something outrageous outside your echo chamber will naturally be met with appropriate condemnation. This kind of exchange needs to happen to keep people reasonable. |
Also, hands up if you're pretty sure OP intended "certain people" as a dog whistle about Jews. |
