That makes three of us… It was never Boston Market though. More like sketchy Chinese food from around the corner. I actually don’t think government should pay for those kinds of things, but I do think employees and managers deserve flexibility, empathy, and respect. For goodness sake, just look at what things are like when the government shuts down and then get back to me about how federal employees don’t do anything. Managers tolerate a certain level of “waste” in any large organization because we realize things need to be stable. I’m so tired of people trying to fix government by starving it. Just give people something good to do, the money to do it, and they’ll do it. You’d be surprised at how effective federal employees are when they have real leadership. This insistence on micromanagement is driving good leaders away. |
This. It will be back to the spoils system. And they almost were able to do it last time. The effect will be a bunch of bottom of the barrel grifters informing “policy” decisions to benefit the “public” (as in, political donors). |
See, you've got it backwards. Instead of hating the fact that feds get decent salaries, pensions, vacation time, job security, etc., you should want that for ALL employees, everywhere. Everyone should have decent salaries. My cousin-in-law's wife just had a baby, and he gets zero paid leave, so he never took any time off. And he's a lawyer in a law firm (in AZ, not in the DMV). The other, bigger reason this wouldn't work is that most federal employees are not in the DMV, and Congress doesn't want to piss off that many of their own constituents by letting them get fired so easily. I read the article in the OP's post. He wants to get rid of the FBI. Looks like we've found a Republican who believes in defunding the police. |

It's not just Ramaswamy, DeSantis has stated he wants a 50% reduction in the Federal workforce.
I'm a Fed and I'm not entirely opposed to a reduction, we have a lot of worthless positions. Not necessarily the people in them (although...) but just too many positions and redudancy. Bush 43 came in and cut FTEs to on-board levels, all vacancies were wiped out in several agencies. We managed to survive. |
| It makes me so mad the hatred of feds (and, no, I’m not on the clock right now - I’m taking sick leave and waiting at the dentist’s office). I’ve been shocked in my years in give by the dedication and commitment and competence of most of the federal employees I work with. There are a few here and there that are dedicated but not particularly sharp and there are slackers here and there but I’m sure that’s true of any large organization, |
Idiot thinks he is an American "Modi", but he just an American "Pappu"! Even intelligent Indian-Americans become "gobar" once they join GOP! Pa Dam Dishoom, Bloody!! |
You see worthless positions, I see untapped potential. There is a lot of mismanagement of government’s best assists—the employees—who don’t get the leadership they deserve. It’s 2023 and there are tons of vacant appointments not filled! Forgive feds for twiddling their thumbs at times. The rot starts at the top, I really wish people would stop punching down. |
Thats like saying we didn't have seatbelts as kids, but you lived so nbd. How many good services and programs might be available to the public now if he hadn't cut those positions? I work in a safety field, so I have pretty strong opinions on redundancy and points of failure. If we expect government to be available in a crisis, prepared for all kinds of things, innovating, accountable and transparent, etc. - yes there has to be redundancy. Saying there are too many positions (compared to what?) is just empty talking points without some discussion of what services government should provide. |
+1 Oh they'll reconsider once they have trouble getting social security and it's even hard to file taxes! |
| ^^ harder |
Did that cut happen before or after 9/11 and when he created DHS and started a couple of wars. I don’t recall Bush shrinking government much in the end. |
By hiring contractors (I was one of them )
|
| The gubment and its workers are very efficient. |
| Politics aside, Ramaswamy is just so insufferable. |
Right. There's a lot to worry about but this guy is just a boob. |
