Yeah, funnily enough I wasn't focused on you or your kid, but the OP's question. |
Its the State of MD not MCPS |
Not true. UMichigan, a highly ranked school, for example, calls out Calculus only for Engineering applications, not even for Science. https://admissions.umich.edu/apply/first-year-applicants/requirements-deadlines Furthermore, UMichigan non-Engineering Science-Arts gives more credit for a 5 in AP Stats than for a 5 in AP Calc AB. Only the Engineering schools gives additional credit for calculus. https://admissions.umich.edu/apply/first-year-applicants/ap-ib-credit/ap-guidelines |
The FAQ also says that 15% class is granted an exemption from the "CS doesn't count in senior year" rule. |
MCPS teachers, can you ask admin to delete all the out of date garbage from the website? (And also to post daily/weekly announcements on the school website instead of only on the PA system!) |
The University of British Columbia won't consider ANY applicants with AP Stats. It has to be AP Calc. |
NP, what are you even talking about??? In Britain you can drop maths after the equivalent of 10th grade and never do it again, including as part of your degree, even at the most prestigious world class universities. (And what you do in 9th and 10th grade is far inferior to classes like algebra or geometry). Also A levels haven’t relied solely on final exams in decades. |

https://coursebulletin.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/Home/Introduction#repeating
Says you can even repeat a class like Algebra 2 if yu want, even if you already got an A. |
https://you.ubc.ca/applying-ubc/requirements/international-high-schools/#united-states says Precalculus. Engineering program requires Calculus indirectly via AP Physics, and B.Science recommends (non-AP) Calculus. Other programs (including B.Arts in a science subject) do not require calculus. |
No stats though. |
Some kids do both. |
Yes, well done. Stating the obvious, not responding to the thread at all. Time for bed maybe. |
