Stats is not considered a serious math by most US colleges. 12th graders should at the very least be taking AP Calc AB. I have a non-math kid and I was told this by a reputable college counselor.
Not true. UMichigan, a highly ranked school, for example, calls out Calculus only for Engineering applications, not even for Science. https://admissions.umich.edu/apply/first-year-applicants/requirements-deadlines Furthermore, UMichigan non-Engineering Science-Arts gives more credit for a 5 in AP Stats than for a 5 in AP Calc AB. Only the Engineering schools gives additional credit for calculus. https://admissions.umich.edu/apply/first-year-applicants/ap-ib-credit/ap-guidelines
The University of British Columbia won't consider ANY applicants with AP Stats. It has to be AP Calc.
https://you.ubc.ca/applying-ubc/requirements/international-high-schools/#united-states says Precalculus. Engineering program requires Calculus indirectly via AP Physics, and B.Science recommends (non-AP) Calculus. Other programs (including B.Arts in a science subject) do not require calculus.
No stats though.
