If the store allows dogs, your DC should stay home.

I disagree. A parent may need to bring a child to a store - maybe they don't have childcare and can't leave a child home alone safely. Pet owners can leave a pet at home. The default should be that the pet stays at home. I don't remember seeing random pets in stores and supermarkets when I was growing up. Somehow, pet owner expectations have changed and no one has thought through whether these new expectations are reasonable. Is the pet-friendly store liable if an elderly customer trips on a leash in a narrow store aisle? What if the dog bites someone? Or someone slips after stepping on a puddle of dog urine?

Girl, bye. It’s not our responsibility to make adjustments for your kid. I will always take my well-behaved dog places where she’s allowed.

Maybe don’t have kids if you don’t have the resources to handle them.

That PP mentioned supermarkets. Dogs are not allowed there. Stop comparing your dogs to humans.

Get over it, or take meds. There is nothing wrong with the comparison.

Way to ignore the point.

You’re blathering and hyperventilating all over this thread about comparing kids to dogs. You need to take a break, I think.

Oh please. If you don’t love dogs you suck.

Really? Anyone who is not automatically comfortable with a stranger’s dog is a terrible person? If that is the attitude among pet owners, no wonder there are so many untrained dogs running around in stores - I’ve seen them in MOM’s Market, Giant, and Target, all stores with grocery items.

I have a dog. I love dogs. I probably want to pet your dog. Outside the grocery store!

And please, whatever you do, keep your dogs out of the grocery carts. That's just disgusting. People put their food and produce in there.

But I don't disagree that animals should either be that well trained, or stay out of the store.

BS. Get your dog trained. If they wander around it's because you're a lazy azz. We have a neighbor who walks her dog on a retractable leash - the first sign a dog owner is an idiot - who lets her dog wander all the way up to people's front doors as she walks her pest. She says she can't control her dog. Yes, she is an idiot.

It is crazy to me that anyone believes a dog should have more access to public spaces than a child with allergies. Why would you prioritize a filthy animal over a member of your own species?

Your kid isn’t that special. If it’s a huge problem for you, keep your kid home.

Dp. Dog lover but seriously pp? You cannot leave your underage child home alone. Cannot believe you are comparing the two

No need to insult dogs!

Yeah, seriously.

There is nothing wrong with comparing the two. That said, I didn’t make a comparison. I stated a fact about PP’s kid; PP is free to stay home as well.

This is a perfect example of where our culture has gone.

Unfortunately, people ignore this and the supermarkets don't seem to enforce it. The last few times I've gone to the supermarket I've seen people with dogs. In Costco I saw a man with TWO dogs. There is no way these are all service animals. These selfish pet owners give all pet owners a bad name. I guess I should be happy the dogs I saw were all leashed.

Exactly. People shouldn’t have kids if they don’t have the means to care for them. The world isn’t going to stop because you (or another) have a child with dog allergies and no childcare. Dogs will continue to be in dog-friendly places. Make better choices.

Uhhhhhh grocery stores aren’t dog friendly. Kids are allowed in grocery stores. Dogs are not. How is this hard for you to understand?

I didn’t say otherwise, genius.

We’re not talking about solely grocery stores. As you can see above, the first PP mentions “stores and supermarkets.”
