I hate when dogs touch me

But I don't disagree that animals should either be that well trained, or stay out of the store.

It isn't difficult, it just takes time.

Dog owner here. Yeah, no. It can be very difficult with certain dogs. Which is why MOST dog owners don't let their pets into stores... We're not going to compound the problem we know we have!

Part of training ours is taking him to different stores where pets are allowed. Only where they are allowed, and we aren't actually shopping we are training. It can be quite difficult, as you say.

Op tell the owner to pull the dog in.

It can be very difficult, depending on the dog. In fact some dogs, especially of certain breeds, might not ever be able to sit quietly at a handler's side in that kind of environment.

If the store allows dogs, your DC should stay home.

Same with mine. I have taken ours to a few outside eateries but during non-crowded times and we sit away from other people.

I disagree. A parent may need to bring a child to a store - maybe they don't have childcare and can't leave a child home alone safely. Pet owners can leave a pet at home. The default should be that the pet stays at home. I don't remember seeing random pets in stores and supermarkets when I was growing up. Somehow, pet owner expectations have changed and no one has thought through whether these new expectations are reasonable. Is the pet-friendly store liable if a elderly customer trips on a leash in a narrow store aisle? What if the dog bites someone? Or someone slips after stepping on a puddle of dog urine?

Not all dogs do well home alone. Some kids are nightmares in stores. Both kids and animals need to behave.

I'm going to take the dog in if the store allows them.

Animals are unsanitary, and the law protects the national food supply from contamination from dog drool, urine, feces and other material that dogs carry on their coats and paws and might leave behind on store shelves or counters."

These dog owners are the ones who give dog owners a bad reputation.

Recently I was in a store and a young man had a huge Rottweiler with a "service dog" harness on it. The dog came toward me until I was cornered at the end of an aisle and row. Service dogs usually stay right beside their owner.

Of course. There are a lot of other stores, though. If the store allows pets, I might take mine in.

Just leave the dogs at home. It's hot and they want to be lounging on their beds or chewing a toy rather than being drug around in cars.
