Every DCUM beach vacation w/family

I hate the beach.

It only took you until the VERY FIRST COMMENT. God, you’re nothing if not predictable. Terminally dull, but predictable.

Did you post that from your car after you stormed out of the beach house because your inlaws tried to engage you in pleasant conversation?

On the other hand is the single adult childfree SIL who grabbed the queen bed with en suite bathroom for herself. She did not pay at all since her parents got the house (they had the primary suite+bathroom).

Meanwhile, DH, DS, and I got one room and had to share a bathroom down the hall with another sibling.

My sister pulled something similar once. "Her" bathroom was the only one in the house that had a bathtub but then she got pissy when I helped myself to "her" bathroom to bathe my small kids each day. Take the room with the standup shower, hallway bath instead, then!

If there wasn’t a conversation about how meals were being divided up, then I would assume we were buying food there.

They need to add “elderly relative who insists on cooking meals for everyone but has questionable food safety practices”. That always makes thing fun.

+1. And who gets annoyed when people try to order takeout or go out to dinner because she already cooked.

We have this relative (marinates raw meat loosely covered in the fridge, balancing precariously on top of produce) and she also vastly underestimates how much food to make so at least it gives us an excuse to head out for pizza!

We did the extended family beach vacation before kids. Before DH and I were officially married, I had to sleep on a couch in the living room, and then future ILs wondered why I would not stay for the whole week. We'd bring our books to the beach to read, and MIL would whip out her bible. The rest is a blur. Thankfully once the younger generation started having babies, this kind of caper was stopped.

Anyone who does not watch their kids, and likely partakes in day drinking, tends to be selfish and self centered, and makes a beach vacation quite miserable.

But on the flip side, how do you survive these family group vacations WITHOUT day drinking? Touché

You don’t say “touché” to your own point.

Yes I do. Touché.

This. Only certain people are allowed to be comfortable? On vacation? WHAT?

Same.

My sister never watches her kids and gets drunk and/or high. They are so misbehaved, break things, hurt people and animals, just really out of control. My sister is divorced but before that my ex-BIL never came so it was just her. I don't mind helping, but it quickly became a real nightmare and dangerous (especially when a pool or beach is involved). I have confronted her, she doesn't care. So we no longer vacation together. I just say no.

This was what we started to do, then of course, somehow we were the bad guys?

I was this victim on two beach vacations. Folks me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. So there was never a third time. I never vacation with my sister ever again.

I think you and I have the same sister!

I feel like almost everyone who’s not an only has the Lazy Checked Out I’m-On-Vacation Parent Sibling. I’m from a big family, so I have two. Lucky me!

Yup. And communication is definitely not their strong point.
