Very true |

Summer vacation = riding bikes, planting a garden/harvesting, going to the local pool, reading library books, being bored, taking the bus to the mall, etc etc.
C'mon, you entitled people! |
For high school? In 2023? By my count, there are only three malls left in Montgomery County (unless you count RIO as a mall), and one of them is the outlet mall in Clarksburg, which I don't think kids hang out at. Or at least my two upcounty kids don't. |
| For social life, for having a group to hang with in high school -- she should absolutely make it a priority, above other activities/family vacation, to try out and probably make the high school team. |
| Sorry this caught you off-guard. I can see where if you don’t have friends in the know, you wouldn’t expect the tryouts to be this early. However, when my oldest was in 8th grade, I did as much research as I could including talking to parents of older students and even contacting the school so we would be prepared. We actually missed out on the beach last year because of tryouts. However, life is full of choices and we decided that our son playing soccer would be a top priority since it allowed him to feel a sense of belonging in an otherwise huge school. He has missed out on plenty of other things though. |
THIS - high school sports are a 1 out of 10 to the club and travel sports in this area. |
If you have to depend on a Fall sports team for friends, that is a red flag |
Why? You already have a common interest. Makes sense to me that you would be friends with at least some of your teammates. |
A red flag for what? What an odd comment in a county with high schools that have over 2000 kids each. |
+1. God, that comment is so quintessentially DCUM.
|
OK, then since it’s so terrible, your (or OP’s kid) won’t mind not participating then. Problem solved! |
Do you not know what “depend on” means? |
+1 loudoun. And it sucks. |
| The first HS sports events occur during the first week of school. So to be ready, tryouts and practice have to start in the summer. And, if you’re upset about that, wait until you learn about summer practices that start July 1st. |
That is why we stick with club volleyball and stay away from HS. They has workouts from 1-3pm daily all summer. Could you pick a worse time of the day. Just completely dense. And then team went 3-15 last year. This is because the club players won't play Nov-May and then start workouts for HS a month later. |
