My neighborhood. Glover Park. Way back against the woods. The bad guys are too lazy to go back there. There's no retail. |
| Those are good photos. I suspect he’ll be identified and picked up soon. |
PP and I never said it seems like an unsafe area. Quite frankly I know nothing about that neighborhood of the city. I was pointing out that tourists get lost all the time or take wrong turns. People were saying this route seems unusual to get to the metro. |
My neighborhood doesn’t have any retail around either. People still get shot or have their dogs stolen or get mugged. |
I assume people have guns and proceed accordingly. DP |
And that’s ok, if learning this information then changes the course of future risky ENTIRELY ELECTIVE behavior. People like you are always quick to scream “victim blaming!” and assume this is an air-tight conversation ender. Also assumed is that the other person has no compassion for the victim. Wrong. I can hold two thoughts in my head! The first is that I feel terrible for this poor tourist from Kentucky. I may also come to believe it’s a bad idea to go on Grindr and arrange a meeting with a complete stranger and agree to pay cash because the stranger doesn’t have Venmo. For example. |
Shot by a man wearing Crocs. |
We don't know yet, but a guess is: --It wasn't a prearranged meeting bc he was on his way to a conference; he was in town with his family, who likely would have known around what time he left his room to go to the conference; and the conference started at a certain time. --Confronted on his way to the metro and then robbed. Cell phone and belongings taken. --Even though cell phone taken, hopefully they can get some phone/app records ASAP to see if there were any communications w this individual. -- From this article, it sounds like police are backing away from stating they knew each other. I don't know that you could tell this from silent video alone, given the theory that he could have been confronted and threatened on the way to the conference. |
+1 Hope he’s terrified. May he rot in jail. Piece of s**t. |
The fact that you even feel the psychic need to make up this tale indicates that you desperately want to reassure yourself that random crime can’t happen to you. |
Well, that hasn't happened in GP. Sorry about your situation. |
| Ugh this breaks my heart from the linked article upthread. Moments before the alleged robbery, his mother said that Emerson sent her a Snapchat message: “Help. Bring ribbed At cub point." She quickly knew he meant being robbed at gun point. Terror typing. Last words will wreck this poor mother, father, and his twin brother. |
PP. The kind of crime I described will never, ever happen to me. That’s correct. It is however happening a lot in NYC and also in my hometown. I’m sorry you’re upset that I took the time to type out this plausible scenario, which happens a lot but typically doesn’t end in death. There have been several cases like this in DC over the past 15 years. |
His mother said the family had stayed at Trinity on prior visits to DC. They had taken metro to see the fireworks the night before. He was not unfamiliar with the route. Something else happened. |
