They’re not required to give you a pencil and the front desk person didn’t have one, so they weren’t going above and beyond to find you one……

Wrong. Its a private place they pay to be a member of. It's not a random public store.

+1
It’s a community center. Ours has coffee and magazines and the olds are encouraged to hang out. It also has a robust camp program so yes, pencils, colored pencils and even markers could be found for a member on request. Same as soap, first aid supplies and probably granola bars!

Does the robust camp cost $150 a month?

Camp and gym childcare are two different things.

Except they have all of these things at the ymca.

Yes but if you go in the gym childcare the worker there isn’t allowed to leave to go over to the camp to get a pencil, due to ratios.

Yes if I spend hundreds a week for a full day camp I expect age limited groupings and a variety of art materials, although I still wouldn’t have a tantrum if they didn’t happen to have a pencil. But this wasn’t at the camp.

Is this something cheap people do, use their gym memberships to squeak out free childcare each month? I guess if you WFM you could drop your kid off at 8, work in the lobby and pick them up at 5…

It's NOT free. They pay for a family membership. You are out of touch with people's budgets. Op doesn't have money for a sister everyday, and she can't afford camps. It's something regular people do. They can't be there for more than 2 hours. You are really out of touch, PP.

Pp is nuts. You don't understand people don't have disposable income to hire babysitters? And ymca isn't free. You also don't know they can't use the gym childcare all day. You obviously never used gym childcare before, as you had other, more expensive options. Plenty of people can't afford the YMCA family membership. It's a luxury.
